He first made an impression with his as yet unproduced spec script Hell Bent... and Back which sold for one million dollars. He wrote an adaptation of Walter Wager's novel 58 Minutes which became the basis for the sequel Die Hard 2. Other screenplays include Bad Boys and Hostage.
His novels include 99 Percent Kill: A Lucky Dey Thriler, Blood Money, The Safety Expert, True Believers, and Dark Horse. Richardson's first non-fiction book, The Smoking Gun: True Tales from Hollywood's Screenwriting Trenches is a collection of popular weekly blogs from his website.
