Dongar Parasia (now named Parasia) is a tehsil and a municipality in Chhindwara district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Dongar Parasia (Parasia), the biggest division and tehsil of Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh, had a population of 37,876. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Dongar Parasia has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78% and female literacy is 64%. In Dongar Parasia, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Social activities

Parasia has a non-government organisation — Lions Club — and recently launched their charitable Lions Eye Hospital to extend support for unprivileged people. The club was chartered here in 1987 and is affiliated to Lions Clubs International. It is led by a group of highly educated natives of Parasia. They are working to eliminate blindness, provide eye care, educate poor children (through a tie-up with many government schools), and are aiming to support old and helpless citizens by starting a programme "Daridya Narayana Bhoj" to provide daily food to 70–80 elderly people.

Lions Club Parasia and Chandametta Club's main project is eye donation and mission is to bring eye care of international standard within the reach of every individual. The name of this club is taken with respect in all over India. Its members are committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in education, research, and eye care for the benefit of humanity. Lions Club Parasia is a family of 70 members including Leo Club and Lioness Club.

Education

Parasia has primary and secondary schools and colleges. There is also a library named EKLAVYA which contains about 20,000 books.

Coal mining

Parasia is known as the "Coal Mines Belt". There were 24 mines in this area, of which 20 are still working. The principal ones are Eklahara Mines, Burkuhi Mines, Chandametta Mines, Newton Mines, Donger Chikhali Mines, Mahadev Puri Mines. Ravanwara Mines, Ravanwara Khash, Vishnu Puri No. 11, Vishnu Puri No. 12, Chhinda Mines, Setiya Mines, Shivpuri Mines, Shivpuri Mines, Jhhury Mines, Mathani Mines, Thisgora Mines, Nahariya Mines, Pench Mines, and Urdhan Project.

Parasia has the head office of Pench Area, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) — one of the eight subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL) which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal. The company incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956.
