  • History

The first Salesian educational institution, Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI), was founded in 1951 in Victorias, Negros Occidental. A second institution, the St. John Bosco Academy, was established in 1951 in Tarlac, Tarlac, and was followed by other Don Bosco schools in Mandaluyong (1953), Cebu (1954), Makati (1954) and eventually Pampanga (1956). Most people say that St. John Bosco Academy was the first Salesian establishment but actually, the first group of Salesians, led by Rev. Fr. Guido D'Amore took residence in DBTI, Victorias City, and not in Tarlac. However, months after the establishment of DBTI, St. John Academy was also established. This has caused the confusion since both schools were established on the same year.

The school was purposely intended to provide technical education for the sons of Victorias Milling Company (VMC) employees. However, as years passed by, the school decided to accept boys outside of VMC.

The institution derives its name from Saint John Bosco, the founder of the Salesian Society. He was a 19th-century Italian priest renowned for founding technical schools aimed at equipping boys with the necessary skills to become skilled craftsmen and leaders. Saint John Bosco's vision was to create educational establishments that would shape young individuals into devout Christians and upright citizens.

In January and February 2007, DBTI Victorias celebrated Don Bosco Day in honor of St. John Bosco, whose feast day is January 31. The theme was "For Life" in response to the Rector Major's 2007 Strenna, "Let us be guided by God's love for life."

In February 2 to February 4, 2007 it hosted the Regional Boscolympics, participated by Don Bosco Technical Institute-Victorias, Don Bosco Technology Center (Cebu), St. Louis School-Don Bosco (Dumaguete), and Don Bosco Boy's Home Lilo-an (Cebu).
