Publishers Weekly called the book "a surprisingly fresh compilation of homespun advice". AudioFile positively reviewed the audiobook, saying that Tyler "makes the most of this audio form, and his own heartfelt epilogue gives a glimpse into the creative spirit who brings us Madea".
