Biography
He was born in Swatow, grew up in Hong Kong. He studied under two Nobel Laureates at Harvard Medical School before joining the Harvard Faculty and subsequently became Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of Center for Biotechnology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is the president of the World Eye Organisation
Timeline
In 1989, Lam became the founding director of Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology and received the U.S. High Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He was also appointed a member of the U.S. President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities by George H. W. Bush, and received a Presidential Medal of Merit.
1991, Lam was named “Asia Society Man of the Year”. Lam wrote two articles for Scientific American.
1999: Lam was honoured as an accomplished and influential artist by the China Academy of Art, The Artist Association of China and the National Palace Museum of China.
2001-2002: Lam created “This Land is Our Land” and “A Galaxy on Earth”, two large very large paintings, for the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the official residence used for foreign government leaders and dignitaries when visiting Beijing.
2002, Lam painted a series of paintings for the Beijing Olympics
2005 Appointed Chairman of Arts Promotion Committee, Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
2005: Received Grand Award from Loreal international Prize for Art and Science.
2006: The Hong Kong Post Office issued a souvenir cover and stamp designed by Dominic Lam.
2009: Lam published an ebook entitled My Mentors through the Apple App Store (ISBN 978-988-99145-3-0)
