Domingo Pais (16th century) was a Portuguese traveler who visited the Vijayanagara Empire, or the "Reino de Bisnaga" (as it was referred to by the Portuguese) located in the Deccan in southern India, about the year 1520 during the reign of King Krishna Deva Raya. His description of Hampi, the Hindu imperial capital, is the most detailed of all historical narratives on this ancient city.

Reports Pais, "The kingdom has many places on the coast of India, which are seaports with whom we are at peace, and some of them are factories, in particular in Amcola, Mirgeo, Honor, Batecalla, Mamgalor, Bracalor and Bacanor." Domingo Pais reports advanced irrigation technology that allowed the kingdom to have large produces and at very reasonable prices, a wide variety of cultures. also the market of precious stones showed intense activity. The city prospered and its size, in the eyes of the narrator, was comparable to Rome, with lots of vegetation, aqueducts and artificial lakes.
