Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor was a special live show made to promote the revelation of the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who. It was broadcast live on 4 August 2013 on BBC One, BBC America, Space and ABC1 in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia, respectively. The special was hosted by Zoë Ball, and featured appearances from many Doctor Who stars, including Matt Smith, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Bernard Cribbins
Matt Smith, who portrayed the Eleventh Doctor, announced his departure from Doctor Who in June 2013, which sparked speculation on who would portray the Twelfth Doctor. After the announcement of Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor on 2 August 2013, speculation widely continued. It was finally revealed that Peter Capaldi would become the Twelfth Doctor. The live show was watched by an average of 6.27 million in the UK, and was also simulcast in the United States, Canada and Australia.
