Diospyros squamifolia is a small tree in the Ebenaceae family. It grows up to 5 metres (20 ft) tall. The fruits are round, up to 1.5 cm (1 in) in diameter. The specific epithet squamifolia is from the Latin meaning "scale-like leaf", referring to the fish scale shape of the leaves. Its habitat is lowland mixed dipterocarp forests. D. squamifolia is endemic to Borneo and known only from Sabah.
