Dianne Newman is a microbiologist who was one of the recipients of the 2016 MacAuthor Fellowships. She is Gordon M. Binder/Amgen Professor of Biology and Geobiology, with a joint appointment between the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering and the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at California Institute of Technology.

She received her B.A. degree at Stanford University and her Ph.D. at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her work deals with electron-transfer reactions that are part of the metabolism of micro-organisms.
