Diamond Is Unbreakable

Plot

In 1999 in the town of Morioh (杜王町, Moriō-chō) located in S-City, M-Prefecture (M県S市, Emu-ken, Esu-shi), Josuke Higashikata (東方 仗助, Higashikata Jōsuke, the kanji 助 suke, can also be read as jo) is a popular boy in high school who becomes quick friends with one of his classmates, Koichi Hirose. When Josuke's nephew Jotaro Kujo (who's older than he is due to his father being his nephew's grandfather, hence the age difference) appears, Josuke is suddenly pulled into the world of the supernatural powers known as stands. One of DIO's henchmen has brought the Bow and Arrow to Morioh and someone has been using it on various people in the town creating Stand users—as discovered when one of them, the murderer Anjuro "Angelo" Katagiri, uses the power of his Stand Aqua Necklace to try and kill Josuke for interfering with his plans to rob a store and generally disturb the peace in Morioh earlier. Aqua Necklace manages to kill Josuke's grandfather, Ryohei Higashikata, in revenge for him being jailed by him. Josuke and Jotaro eventually capture him and, as a consequence of insulting Josuke's hair, ends up getting fused to the rock he was leaning on at the time, becoming a tourist attraction known as "Angelo Rock" in the process.

A few days later Josuke and his friend Koichi go to investigate a seemingly abandoned house, but Koichi is trapped and choked by a man later revealed to be Okuyasu Nijimura. Koichi was eventually struck by the arrow from the house, where he wouldn't have survived, as he does not have the same spiritual strength as the other victims of the arrow, hadn't Josuke intervened and healed him. They discover that the culprit of the shot is Keicho Nijimura, Okuyasu's brother. Their father - formerly DIO's lackey and injected with DIO's cells - has now turned into a monstrous creature with DIO's death. It is then revealed Keicho wants to create Stand users in the hopes that someone will be able to kill his monstrous father. Josuke manages to show the brothers that their father is still at least partially human inside and dissuades them from their activities. However they are attacked by the Stand Red Hot Chili Pepper, which kills Keicho and takes the Bow and Arrow. Okuyasu joins with Josuke, Jotaro, and Koichi to fight the Stand that killed his brother and eventually becomes close friends with Josuke. The group then continues to encounter other Stand users while looking for Red Hot Chili Pepper's user.

The plot begins to focus on Koichi when he is kidnapped by his classmate Yukako Yamagishi, also a Stand user, who is in love with him and is determined that he will love her back. He escapes from her and in the process his Stand evolves into a stronger form. The group then finally comes face-to-face with Akira Otoishi, Red Hot Chili Pepper's user. However, he proves hard for the group to defeat. Only when Joseph Joestar, the father Josuke never knew, arrives in Morioh are they finally able to defeat Akira. The Bow and Arrow are then taken into the Speedwagon Foundation's custody and all seems to be over for the moment.

A month later Koichi meets manga author Rohan Kishibe, whose Heaven's Door ability allows him to open up a person's face like a book and both read and rewrite their memories; Rohan finds himself drawn to the plucky Koichi, but does not get along with Josuke. Yukako and Rohan both become part of Josuke's group of Stand users along with others the group has encountered, such as Tamami Kobayashi, Toshikazu Hazamada, Mikitaka Hazekura, and Yuuya Fungami.

Soon afterwards, Koichi and Rohan discover a hidden alleyway in town that is not of their world. Once they enter, it is there they meet the ghost of a young girl named Reimi Sugimoto, Rohan's babysitter in his youth, who was murdered by a serial killer over a decade before. She begs Koichi and Rohan to find her killer, who has stayed in Morioh and is still preying on innocent people. This turns out to be Yoshikage Kira, a serial killer that kills women using his Stand Killer Queen to explode their bodies and keeps their hands as romantic mementos. When Josuke and Okuyasu's new friend, Shigekiyo "Shigechi" Yangu, discovers Kira's secret and is killed for it, they resolve to put an end to Kira's murders.

Jotaro and Koichi eventually fight Kira, but before he can be fully defeated, he flees and forces Aya Tsuji, the user of the Stand Cinderella, a Stand that can alter people's physical features, to change his face and kills her before she can tell Josuke what he now looks like. Shortly thereafter, the ghost of Kira's father uses a second Stand-creating Bow and Arrow to create an army of Stand users to protect his hiding son and go after members of Josuke's group. Rohan eventually suspects Kosaku Kawajiri is Kira's new identity and confirms it after reading Kawajiri's son Hayato's memories. However Rohan is killed instantly for his troubles by Killer Queen's new technique, "Bites the Dust", which Kira acquired after accidentally being stabbed with his father's Arrow. The ability plants a miniaturized Killer Queen on a person, with this person being Hayato Kawajiri, the son of the father he's impersonating, which not only kills anyone that tries to learn about Kira from them, it resets the time from an hour to a day, with the victim dying again as normal as soon as the original time of the explosion reoccurs. This continues until Kira finds out who the bomb killed. It also protects Hayato from harm, whether from the outside or self-inflicted.

When Rohan's death is repeated a second time, Josuke, Koichi, Okuyasu, and Jotaro were there to meet him. They see Hayato and figure out Kira is masquerading as his father, all of them dying as a result. The memory is then repeated again so Kira can learn who was killed, but this time Hayato tricks him into giving his own identity away before Rohan's death. Kira was then forced to remove the technique from Hayato to protect himself as he fights Josuke, resulting in an end to the time-loop and saving Rohan's life. With help from Josuke, Hayato, Okuyasu, and Koichi, Jotaro delivers a blow to Kira that propels him in front of an ambulance and he is run over. Kira is then shown as a ghost as his first victim, Reimi, informs him what happened. Kira attempts to attack Reimi once more, only to be torn apart by countless phantom hands, presumably of his other victims.

With Kira dead and the murders solved, Reimi and Arnold say their last goodbyes to Josuke, Rohan and the other Stand users of Morioh as the two spirits ascend to heaven. As Jotaro and Joseph prepare to leave Morioh, Josuke wishes them the best, but not before using Crazy Diamond to snatch Joseph's wallet, distressing his father.

Main characters

Josuke Higashikata (東方 仗助, Higashikata Jōsuke)

Voiced by: Yūki Ono (Anime), Yō Taichi (young, Anime), Wataru Hatano (ASB, EoH) Played by: Kento Yamazaki The protagonist of this story arc. A freshman in the town of Morioh, Josuke is the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar. His Stand is Crazy Diamond (クレイジー・ダイヤモンド, Kureijī Daiyamondo, renamed "Shining Diamond" in the international release of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and the U.S. broadcast of the Crunchyroll anime), which has the ability to restore objects to their original form; including other people's injuries.

Koichi Hirose (広瀬 康一, Hirose Kōichi)

Voiced by: Yūki Kaji (Anime), Romi Park (ASB, EoH) Played by: Ryunosuke Kamiki A classmate of Josuke's who meets him when Jotaro is searching for Josuke, resulting in the two becoming quick friends. Koichi is a young freshman in high school, and despite his age, he is very short. Throughout the series, he forms a student-teacher relationship with Jotaro. His Stand is Echoes (エコーズ, Ekōzu, renamed "Reverb" in All Star Battle and Crunchyroll anime), which has three distinct forms, or Acts (Koichi can only call upon one at any given time). Echoes Acts 1 and 2 can replicate sound effects and attach them to anything, which result in that happening to the object (i.e. attaching the word "whoosh" causes a gust of wind to blow by) Echoes Act 3 loses the former abilities and gains the ability "Freeze" which causes a target to become very heavy, it can also communicate with Koichi. Koichi has a pet dog named Police (ポリス, Porisu).

Jotaro Kujo (空条 承太郎, Kūjō Jōtaro)

Voiced by: Daisuke Ono (ASB, EoH, Anime) Played by: Yūsuke Iseya Protagonist of the previous arc, Part 3 Stardust Crusaders, and technically Josuke's nephew. He goes to Morioh to find Josuke, Joseph Joestar's son, as well as investigate a Stand user. Ten years after the battle with DIO, Jotaro's Stand Star Platinum, has now officially evolved into Star Platinum: The World. However, because of disuse, Star Platinum's Time Stop ability is severely limited.

Okuyasu Nijimura (虹村 億泰, Nijimura Okuyasu)

Voiced by: Wataru Takagi (ASB, EoH, Anime), Konami Saitō (young, Anime) Played by: Mackenyu One of the two Nijimura brothers who were responsible for creating the majority of Stand users in Morioh via the Bow and Arrow. Okuyasu is overly dependent on his elder brother Keicho to make hard decisions. After his brother died, he sought revenge against the user of Red Hot Chili Pepper, Akira Otoishi, and becomes friends with Josuke and Koichi. Okuyasu's father is a bizarre creature, mutated by Dio Brando's spores when Okuyasu was only seven. At first, Okuyasu and Keicho plotted to kill their father to relieve him of his suffering, creating Stand users via the Bow and Arrow for this very purpose. Okuyasu rather dislikes Rohan because of what Rohan tried to do to him when they first met. His Stand is The Hand (ザ・ハンド, Za Hando), whose right hand is used to temporarily erase the space where it moves, teleporting the objects closer to Okuyasu. While this ability is quite useful, he is rather unintelligent rarely using it to its potential.

Rohan Kishibe (岸辺 露伴, Kishibe Rohan)

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Anime), Hiroshi Kamiya (ASB, EoH) A famous manga artist who recently moved to Morioh. His Stand Heaven's Door (ヘブンズ・ドアー, Hebunzu Doā), allows him to read the memories of its target as well as write down commands that they must follow, most commonly "Can not attack Rohan Kishibe." A restriction on his power is that the target must see his artwork, but this can be supplemented by drawing an "image" in the air with his finger. He eventually befriends Koichi, and subsequently helps Josuke's group learn Yoshikage Kira's new identity. Other Stand users

Joseph Joestar (ジョセフ・ジョースター, Josefu Jōsutā)

Voiced by: Unshō Ishizuka (EoH, Anime) Protagonist of Part 2 Battle Tendency, Josuke's estranged father and Jotaro's grandfather. Here, his age had finally caught up to him, no longer the strong, boisterous trickster from Parts 2 and 3. He comes to Morioh to meet Josuke and help the others with the Bow and Arrow situation, but only assists in minor side-stories. He later adopts Shizuka, an abandoned infant and Stand user who he encounters in one of these.

Tamami Kobayashi (小林 玉美, Kobayashi Tamami)

Voiced by: Satoshi Tsuruoka (Anime), Kazunari Tanaka (ASB) A minor character. He is first introduced as a villain, attacking Koichi Hirose and his family, but after being defeated becomes a friend of the group, even calling Koichi "Boss Koichi". His Stand is The Lock (錠前（ザ・ロック）, Za Rokku), which forms a lock on the victim's heart that continues to grow as he makes them feel more and more guilty.

Toshikazu Hazamada (間田 敏和, Hazamada Toshikazu)

Voiced by: Hiroki Shimowada (Anime), Taiki Matsuno (ASB) He is a classmate of Josuke's and a Stand user, who originally appeared as a villain after being tracked down by Josuke. His Stand Surface (うわっ面（サーフィス）, Sāfisu, renamed "Show Off" in Crunchyroll anime) is a mannequin that copies his target exactly, including appearance and voice, and forces the person to mimic its own movements. However after being defeated he becomes somewhat of friends with the group.

Yukako Yamagishi (山岸 由花子, Yamagishi Yukako)

Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Anime), Chinatsu Akasaki (EoH) Played by: Nana Komatsu She is a classmate of Josuke's and Koichi's, who has an obsessive crush on Koichi. Her obsession leads to her trying to force him into loving her, effectively resulting in a battle between the two. Later on she gives up forcing him to like her, but uses the power of Aya Tsuji's Stand, which causes her to be unusually attractive to Koichi, resulting a side-story and by the end an actual relationship between them. At one point, she stood too close to the edge of a cliff which crumbles, causing her to fall into the ocean above several sharp rocks. Koichi saves her with the use of Echoes Act 2, making the rocks bounce her back up to safety. Nearby fishermen witness the spectacle, believing a miracle has saved a girl from committing suicide and naming the cliffs from which Yukako fell Boing-Boing Cape (ボヨヨン岬, Boyoyon-misaki). Her Stand Love Deluxe (ラブ・デラックス, Rabu Derakkusu) is bound to her hair and can lengthen to any distance. Araki drew the cover for the 2009 single "Breeeeze Girl" by the rock band Base Ball Bear, it features Yukako in a panel from the manga.

Tonio Trussardi (トニオ・トラサルディー, Tonio Torasarudī, renamed "Tonio Trendy" in Crunchyroll anime)

Voiced by: Tokuyoshi Kawashima (Anime), Daisuke Matsubara (ASB, EoH) A chef from Amalfi, Italy, who runs an Italian Restaurant in Morioh, which is actually his own house. Unlike most other Stand users that Josuke meets, Tonio's was not awakened by an Arrow but by his zeal to perfect his culinary arts and does not mean any harm to them, originally. He has a tendency to get furious when someone enters his kitchen without permission out of the fear that the person will defile it, and therefore will punish them by making them clean the entire kitchen. His Stand Pearl Jam (パール・ジャム, Pāru Jamu, renamed "Pole Jam" in Crunchyroll Anime) heals people by intrinsically telling Tonio what their injuries are and he prepares a dish for them that they will undoubtedly find delicious. In the side story Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe ~Episode 6: The Poaching Reef~, Tonio admits to Rohan that he came to Japan to seek out a particular type of abalone native to Morioh so he may use it in his cooking to cure his childhood sweetheart of a massive brain tumor that has left her incapacitated, and he believes only this special abalone combined with Pearl Jam can cure her. He intends to poach the abalone, claiming he has discovered that there is a tradition in Morioh of poaching the abalone on a particular night when they cannot tell up from down and swim about, and takes Rohan with him for help. But the "tradition" is actually a trap to execute would-be poachers when the abalone stick to them and drag them beneath the surface, and Tonio is dragged under when three abalone stick to him. Rohan is only able to save him by using Heaven's Door on a nearby octopus, the abalone's natural predator according to Rohan's research, and later at the restaurant, Rohan watches on as Tonio and his lover enjoy a moment together, the woman standing for the first time in years. In the events of the novel Purple Haze Feedback, his real name is stated to be Antonio Volpe (アントニーオ・ヴォルペ, Antonīo Vorupe), and is the brother of antagonist Massimo Volpe.

Shizuka Joestar (静・ジョースター, Shizuka Jōsutā) / "The Invisible Baby" (透明の赤ちゃん, Tōmei no Akachan)

Voiced by: Taeko Kawata (Anime) An abandoned infant on the streets of Morioh, who is eventually found by Josuke and Joseph and later adopted by Joseph into the Joestar family. She is rarely seen in the series, and whenever she does make an appearance, she is usually in the care of Joseph. However, she did play a part in Rohan's confrontation with Ken Oyanagi, as Rohan used her Stand powers to help him. At the end of the arc, it is said that Suzi Q - Joseph's wife and Jotaro's grandmother - discovers Joseph has brought home a child and mistook her to be another one of her husband's illegitimate children. Her Stand is Achtung Baby (アクトン・ベイビー, Akuton Beibī) which has the ability to make her body transparent, as well as anything else surrounding her within a one meter radius.

Shigekiyo Yangu (矢安宮 重清, Yangū Shigekiyo)

Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (ASB, EoH, Anime) Nicknamed "Shigechi" (重ちー, Shigechī), Shigekiyo is an outcast who feels welcome once he becomes acquainted with Josuke and Okuyasu. His stand is Harvest (ハーヴェスト, Hāvesuto) which is divided into multiple small individuals and used by him to collect stray objects. This ability is the catalyst of his friendship with Josuke and Okuyasu after they use it to earn large amounts of money, not after getting into battle though due to Shigechi's own greed. Due to a mix-up, he ends up discovering Yoshikage Kira's hand from one of his victims and is killed by him for it, resulting in Josuke's group's resolve to find Kira.

Aya Tsuji (辻 彩, Tsuji Aya)

Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara (Anime), Kaori Mizuhashi (EoH) A young woman who fancies herself to be a real-life Fairy Godmother. As such she owns the Cinderella Beauty Salon in Morioh and uses her stand also called Cinderella (シンデレラ, Shinderera) to give young women complete makeovers. With it she can alter the features of anyone subjected to her power, modifying their "destiny", such as granting a girl the ability to find a date or her true love. However, the changes are temporary, unless her customers apply a special lipstick every 30 minutes. Failing to do so causes the altered body feature to wither away, disfiguring them. She uses her powers to make Yukako and Koichi closer, then she's forced to disguise Yoshikage Kira, before being killed by his Killer Queen.

Yuuya Fungami (噴上 裕也, Fungami Yūya)

Voiced by: Kishō Taniyama (Anime), Daichi Kanbara (EoH) A vain and spoiled teenager who gained his Stand while shot by the Arrow when driving his motorcycle. As such he is hospitalized with multiple lesions and fractures and attempts to use his Stand to siphon away the energies of random people to heal himself. Discovered by Josuke, he was healed by Crazy Diamond, then injured again in retaliation for his actions. He's later healed again and aids in the battle against Terunosuke Miyamoto. His Stand Highway Star (ハイウェイ・スター, Haiwei Sutā, renamed "Highway Go Go" in All Star Battle and "Highway Circus" in the original anime) allows him to gain the energy of his victims and grants him a supernatural sense of smell and perception, allowing him to track people from afar. Highway Star also has a limitless range and a speed of 60 mph.

Mikitaka Hazekura (支倉 未起隆, Hazekura Mikitaka) / Nu Mikitakazo Nshi (ヌ・ミキタカゾ・ンシ)

Voiced by: Yasuyuki Kase (Anime) A teenager who was shot by the Arrow by Yoshikage Kira's father, however it does not properly pierce him, and is found by Josuke and Okuyasu when they happened to be passing by. He claims to be an alien and gives his full name as Nu Mikitakazo Nshi, supposedly his alien name, but they just ignore it until later interactions cause them to believe otherwise. He has the strange ability Earth Wind and Fire (アース・ウインド・アンド・ファイヤー, Āsu Uindo Ando Faiyā, renamed "Terra Ventus" in All Star Battle) to shape-shift into any physical form he chooses at almost any size. While it could possibly just be Stand power, this is contradicted by the fact that whenever exposed to a siren or a similar sound Mikitaka will suffer from a painful rash until the sound stops. His mother is briefly shown and says his alien claim is just an act, however seeing as he did not see Josuke's Stand when he tried to attack him, it can be assumed that he is not a Stand user. All of this causes mystery surrounding his character.

Enemy Stand users

Anjuro Katagiri (片桐 安十郎, Katagiri Anjūrō) / "Angelo" (アンジェロ, Anjero)

Voiced by: Kenji Hamada (Anime) Played by: Takayuki Yamada Despite having an IQ of 160, Anjuro Katagiri ("Angelo" to the newspapers) chose to embark on a life as a depraved career criminal. He was caught after attempting to ransom a kidnapped heir, and sentenced to death for slaughtering him (long before he tried to collect the ransom). However, while awaiting execution he was visited by Keicho Nijimura, who had been guided to him by the Arrow. After being pierced by the Arrow, resulting in the awakening of his Stand Aqua Necklace (アクア・ネックレス, Akua Nekkuresu), capable of possessing anything liquid, even if the liquid becomes vaporized, Angelo somehow escaped prison and returned to his old hunting grounds of Morioh, where he would ultimately confront Josuke. He acted as a milkman to Josuke's mother, hiding his Stand underneath one of the bottles and waited until he was carried inside. When Josuke returns home, she inadvertently drinks Aqua Necklace. Josuke saves her by punching her stomach with Crazy Diamond and trapped it within a spare whiskey bottle. While he was asking directions on the phone with Jotaro, Angelo escapes and kills Josuke's grandfather. He later lead Jotaro and Josuke into a fight, but was defeated. Josuke, declaring that he doesn't want to be like Angelo, spared his life. However, he pummeled the criminal into a wall, fused both entities together and made him the newest tourist attraction of the town known as Angelo Rock (アンジェロ岩, Anjero Iwa), a place lovers decide to meet up, and he occasionally lets out a grunt.

Keicho Nijimura (虹村 形兆, Nijimura Keichō)

Voiced by: Tomoyuki Shimura (Anime), Mariko Higashiuchi (young, Anime) Played by: Masaki Okada Okuyasu's elder brother. As his father was mutated by Dio Brando into a monstrous, addled being, he uses the Bow and Arrow, creating several Stand users, hoping that one of them would be able to put his father out of his misery. He is killed by Red Hot Chili Pepper while saving his brother. His Stand Bad Company (バッド・カンパニー, Baddo Kanpanī) is an entire army of toy soldiers. It's been renamed "Worse Company" for the U.S. broadcast of the Crunchyroll anime.

Akira Otoishi (音石 明, Otoishi Akira)

Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo (ASB, EoH, Anime) A young man that aspires to be a rock star guitarist, who was shot with the Arrow by Keicho. He kills Keicho and takes the Bow and Arrow using his Stand Red Hot Chili Pepper (レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパー, Reddo Hotto Chiri Peppā, renamed "Chili Pepper" in All Star Battle), an electricity Stand that can travel through wires and other electrical systems as well as being controlled from a long distance. Josuke and his group then search to find Red Hot Chili Pepper's user, even calling Joseph Joestar to Japan to use his Stand which can locate anyone. However Akira learns of this and a battle ensues, with Akira on the winning side for most of the fight until Joseph's boat arrives and he leaves to board it and try to kill him. His attack is foiled through Okuyasu's luck and he is sentenced to three years in jail for the things he stole, namely other people's electricity.

Two rats

Two large field rats, one called "Worm-Eaten" (虫喰い, Mushikui) by Jotaro for his scarred ear and the other simply referred to as "Not Worm-Eaten" (虫食いでない, Mushikuidenai), that were shot by the Arrow during the time it was in Akira Otoishi's possession. Together they killed the inhabitants of Morioh's farmlands. This drew the attention of the Speedwagon Foundation, which had Jotaro and Josuke go on a hunting mission to investigate. They both possess the Stand Ratt (ラット, Ratto), which takes the form of a small airship that transforms into a tank and shoots darts that melt the human skin. They both have unusual levels of intelligence, but are hunted down and later placed in the custody of the Speedwagon Foundation.

Ken Oyanagi (大柳 賢, Ōyanagi Ken) / The "Rock-Paper-Scissors" Kid (ジャンケン小僧, Janken-kozō)

Voiced by: Chika Sakamoto (Anime), Miho Hino (ASB) The first of the Stand users Yoshihiro Kira creates with the Bow and Arrow to protect his hiding son. Ken is a young boy who loves to play games, especially when it comes to deciding who has the right to what, therefore making it as some sort of gamble. After being shot by the Arrow and having his Stand Stand Boy II Man (ボーイ・II・マン, Bō Tsū Man, renamed "Boy Man Man" in All Star Battle) awakened, Ken goes on to confront Rohan, continuously following him all over Morioh and getting into altercations with him. During the course of these events, Ken slowly gains control of Rohan's Stand as Boy II Man allows him to partially take control of his opponent's Stand power by winning a game of rock-paper-scissors, with three consecutive wins needed to gain full control. However, Rohan manages to outsmart the boy and defeat him, gaining full control of Heaven's Door back. The look of the Stand is inspired by the robot in Tetsujin 28.

Toyohiro Kanedaichi (鋼田一 豊大, Kanedaichi Toyohiro)

Voiced by: Kōichi Tōchika (Anime) Kanedaichi, an assumed name, is a Stand user that Josuke and his friends meets on the outskirts of town. His Stand Super Fly (スーパーフライ, Sūpāfurai) attached itself to the abandoned radio tower that Kanedaichi lives in and confines him to an area around the tower. Should another person enter Super Fly's range, Kanedaichi can escape its clutches. Also, it cannot be damaged and any damage done to it will be reversed out back to the person who inflicted it. Kanedaichi uses this to attack people, by cutting and hammering in nails into the tower to allow them to ricochet out. He confronts Josuke, Okuyasu, and Mikitaka and attempts to trap one of them in the tower so that he can leave, but relents after Josuke beats him. Kanedaichi then decides to stay in the tower and becomes a local celebrity. It is also revealed after his defeat that Kanedaichi is quite childish, having puchased the radio tower to live a carefree life, and only agreed to fight them because Yoshihiro promised to support him financially if he did so.

Masazo Kinoto (乙 雅三, Kinoto Masazō)

Voiced by: Makoto Ishii (Anime) Masazo is an insurance agent, who visits Rohan's house after it is burned down. He was hit by the Arrow beforehand, but does not seem to be an enemy because as he shows no effort of killing Rohan. His Stand Cheap Trick (チープ・トリック, Chīpu Torikku) does not want his user's back to be seen, causing Masazo to always walk up against walls and even slide on the floor on his back. This peculiarity intrigues Rohan who tricks Masazo to get a look at his back, causing the stand to kill Masazo and attach itself to Rohan creating a side-story. The fact, that the user dies when using his stand makes it clear, that Masazo was not an enemy trying to kill Rohan, especially since he showed fear before dying.

Stray Cat (猫草（ストレイ・キャット）, Sutorei Kyatto, renamed "Feral Cat" in All Star Battle)

Once a regular cat named Tama (タマ), he is mistakenly killed by Shinobu Kawajiri after being hit by the Arrow. As such instead of staying dead he fuses with his Stand power, becoming a bizarre mix of plant and animal with the power to shoot compressed air towards his enemy. Noticed by Yoshikage Kira, he is then used to supplement his powers and carried inside Killer Queen.

Terunosuke Miyamoto (宮本 輝之輔, Miyamoto Terunosuke) / The "Enigmatic Boy" (エニグマの少年, Eniguma no Shōnen)

Voiced by: Kengo Kawanishi (Anime), Makoto Naruse (ASB) One of Yoshihiro Kira's followers, Terunosuke kidnaps Koichi's mother to trap both Josuke and Koichi in his Stand's powers to keep them from defeating Kira. His Stand Enigma (エニグマ, Eniguma) allows him to trap people in sheets of paper if they show their fear to him. Once they are trapped in the paper, so long as it is folded in half they will remain trapped.

Yoshikage Kira (吉良 吉影, Kira Yoshikage)

Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Anime), Rikiya Koyama (ASB, EoH) The main antagonist of the story, he is a serial killer who been murdering women for over 15 years. He longs for a simple life and doesn't wish to be bothered, shown by the fact that despite his many talents, both physical and intellectual, he purposely holds back so as to not draw attention to himself. He keeps a collection of his own fingernail clippings (sorted in jars by year, with the length of each recorded in a notebook) and has a fetish for the female hand, stemming from an erotic fascination with the hands of the Mona Lisa as a young boy. This results in his murdering women in order to acquire their (severed) hands as "girlfriends"--when one "girlfriend" begins to decay, he goes off in search of a replacement. Originally, Kira murdered his victims by stabbing them so viciously they were left with horrific back wounds. However his Stand Killer Queen (キラークイーン, Kirā Kuīn, renamed "Deadly Queen" in All Star Battle) eventually awoke from his desire to leave no evidence behind—hence its ability to completely disintegrate his victims by explosion. He now lets Killer Queen annihilate his victims (except for their hands), letting everyone else think that the victims have simply gone missing. After being found out by, and battling Jotaro and Koichi, Kira flees and forces Aya Tsuji to use her Stand and change his face. He kills her and then escapes before they can catch up. His new identity was that of Kosaku Kawajiri and in order to not be discovered, he fights the urge and refrains from killing. However, Kawajiri's son Hayato realizes his father is acting strange and follows him trying to figure out why. Eventually Kira admits to him who he is and seemingly kills Hayato, but Kira soon after learns Killer Queen No. 3 and uses it on Hayato, implying that it brought him back to life. He uses Hayato as a weapon to kill Josuke's group and actually does, however because of some restrictions on the ability, Hayato is able to trick him into ending the technique and giving away his new identity, the final fight ensues. He is killed when Jotaro knocks him into the path of an ambulance, and is later torn apart by the ghosts in Reimi's alley. Killer Queen's Bomb No. 1 turns anything it touches into a bomb, while Bomb No. 2 titled Sheer Heart Attack (シアーハートアタック, Shiā Hāto Atakku) is a small indestructible fully automated tank-treaded bomb that attacks the object with the highest temperature in the area. He acquires Bomb No. 3 titled Bite the Dust (バイツァ・ダスト, Baitsa Dasuto) towards the end of the arc when he is accidentally stabbed with the Bow and Arrow. This ability plants a miniaturized Killer Queen on a person and kills anyone that tries to learn info about Kira from them, as well as protects that person for 24 hours. When they learn Kira's identity, or anyone else inquires of information about Kira from them, Killer Queen enters their field of vision, then enters their eye and explodes. The period in which the victim learns his identity and the bomb explodes is repeated in-loop until Kira learns who the bomb killed. The bomb will also reset the time if anyone else is killed within the explosion, and if no one else is killed in the explosion, time will continue without any reset. He must remove the technique to use Killer Queen in any other form. Kira also stars in Araki's three chapter spin-off story Dead Man's Questions (デッドマンズQ, Deddomanzu Kyū), which was published in the magazine Allman in 1999 and follows him as a ghost after his death. He reappears in the Jorge Joestar novel, again as a ghost where he ultimately suffers a final humiliation when Killer Queen, disgusted by him, leaves and becomes the Stand of Ultimate Cars.

Yoshihiro Kira (吉良 吉廣, Kira Yoshihiro) / "The Old Man in the Photograph" (写真のおやじ, Shashin no Oyaji)

Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba (Anime), Bin Shimada (ASB) Yoshihiro Kira is Yoshikage Kira's father who died sometime before Diamond Is Unbreakable. His death activates his Stand Atom Heart Father (アトム・ハート・ファーザー, Atomu Hāto Fāzā), which enables his soul to remain on earth to protect his beloved son Yoshikage. The stand bounds him to a photograph, granting him the ability to affect the outside world simply by manipulating things in the photograph. People can be killed in this way as well, and the death is inevitable unless someone finds a loophole to exit the photograph world.

Others

Reimi Sugimoto (杉本 鈴美, Sugimoto Reimi) and Arnold (アーノルド, Ānorudo)

Voiced by: Sayuri Hara (Anime), Ryō Hirohashi (ASB) Yoshikage Kira's first victim and her dog. She was killed 15 years before the happenings of the manga and waited as a ghost for someone she could tell the story to and inform them of the serial killer. At the end of the arc, she informs Yoshikage Kira of how he died, and because of his death is finally able to rest peacefully. Reimi is named after "See Emily Play" (with Reimi serving as an anagram for Emiri, the Japanese pronunciation of "Emily"). Arnold is named after "Arnold Layne".

Nijimura (虹村)

Voiced by: Naomi Kusumi (Anime) The father of Keicho and Okuyasu who has been transformed into an immortal monstrous creature after the death of DIO. Keicho's belief that his father has lost his humanity is his driving impulse to seek a Stand user who is capable of putting his father out of his misery.

Hayato Kawajiri (川尻 早人, Kawajiri Hayato)

Voiced by: Rina Satō (Anime), Yūko Satō (ASB, EoH) Son of Kosaku Kawajiri, the man whose identity Yoshikage Kira stole, he's a shy, secretive intelligent schoolboy. He notices his father's recent odd behavior and uses a camera to spy on him. Eventually Kira admits who he is to him and seemingly kills him, however he soon reappears and is used by Kira to kill Josuke and company. Kira used his new Bite the Dust technique on him, successfully killing them and starting a time-loop. However, Hayato outsmarts Kira forcing him to end the technique, starting the final battle which Hayato assists in.

Kosaku Kawajiri (川尻 浩作, Kawajiri Kōsaku)

The father of Hayato who is killed by Kira and then takes the man's place. His hatred for shiitake mushrooms is what causes Hayato to realize that the man is not truly his father after he is served a plate of them.

Shinobu Kawajiri (川尻 しのぶ, Kawajiri Shinobu)

Voiced by: Yū Shimamura (Anime) Hayato's mother and Kosaku's wife. She is left completely in the dark about the ultimate fate of her husband, and Hayato hides this from her.

Tomoko Higashikata (東方 朋子, Higashikata Tomoko)

Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (Anime, Episode 1-15), Shizuka Itō (Anime, Episode 31-) Played by: Arisa Mizuki Josuke's mother, who is single and somewhat strict. She does not like to be hit on by other men because she is still madly in love with Joseph Joestar.

Ryohei Higashikata (東方 良平, Higashikata Ryōhei)

Voiced by: Katsuhisa Hōki (Anime) Played by: Jun Kunimura Josuke's maternal grandfather, a member of the Morioh police, who should have retired long ago. His death at the hands of Anjuro Katagiri's Aqua Necklace is what prompts Josuke to fight the rogue Stand users of Morioh.

The Book

Takuma Hasumi (蓮見 琢馬, Hasumi Takuma)

Takuma is a teenage boy who was abandoned by his father at a temple after his mother died in childbirth. He has an eidetic memory, able to remember any manner of information permanently, but it cannot be used to his advantage and haunts him. For example, he can never forget the pain of being struck by a car, and this causes him to scratch at his arms until they are red and scarred. His Stand The Book (The Book（ザ・ブック）, Za Bukku) helps him recall other certain situations at will. After discovering it was actually his father who caused the death of his mother as a result of abuse, he sought out his father by killing a former lover of his to track him down personally. During this time, he meets Chiho Futaba, unaware that she is his half-sister. The strange events of this woman's death causes Josuke, Koichi, and Okuyasu to get involved, and in a confrontation with Josuke, Takuma kills himself to finally relieve himself of the pain he has been suffering from.

Chiho Futaba (双葉 千帆, Futaba Chiho)

Chiho is a young girl who when she was 12 was so upset by her father abusing her mother that she ran away from her home in Morioh to S-City, but returned when she realized she had nowhere else to live. After being attacked by a delinquent, she is saved by a mysterious boy, who she later believes to be Takuma Hasumi, her long lost half-brother. She goes to an all-girl's high school to pursue a dream of being an interpreter for American celebrities, but while writing her diary she begins to discover that she is a much better writer. She begins her new goal of becoming a novelist, investigating some of the strange things around Morioh such as the man living at an antenna (Toyohiro Kanedaichi) and the mysterious talking book (Terunosuke Miyamoto). It is along this way that she meets Takuma and befriends him, unaware that they are related. She then discovers he is her half-brother and in a rage attacks her own father with a knife, killing him. After Takuma's death, she is then sent away from Morioh.

Teruhiko Futaba (双葉 照彦, Futaba Teruhiko)

Father to both Chiho and Takuma, and once known as Teruhiko Ogami (大神 照彦, Ōgami Teruhiko), he is a successful architect who was pierced by the Arrow while in Europe and developed his Stand Memory of Jet (メモリー・オブ・ジェット（黒い琥珀の記憶）, Memorī Obu Jetto), which traps a person in a particular area forever. Teruhiko, in order to appear to be a good person, created the facade of being an introverted young man who became an architect to make Morioh into a city everyone could be proud of. He became so successful as an architect because he would create houses that require less materials than legally allowed, such that they would collapse in the event of an earthquake, and pocketed the extra money. His former lover Hanae Orikasa learned of this and warned then the man's girlfriend Akari Hirai, who confronted Teruhiko, but he trapped her in an alley using Memory of Jet's abilities. From there, he tried to kill her, but she was pregnant with Takuma Hasumi at the time, so he spared her. Teruhiko meets his end at the hands of daughter Chiho when she discovers the truth about Takuma's parentage.

Akari Hirai (飛来 明里, Hirai Akari)

Takuma's mother, she fell in love with Teruhiko Ogami, but became trapped in an alleyway by Teruhiko's Memory of Jet after she confronted him about the money he was embezzling from the architecture firm that they both worked in. Pregnant with his child at the time, and the only person who knew where the embezzled money was kept, she was trapped in the alley created by Memory of Jet until Takuma was born, threatened that if she were to ask for help he would kill her parents, and she died from the strain and abuse.

Hanae Orikasa (織笠 花恵, Orikasa Hanae)

A former lover of Teruhiko Ogami, she is the one who reveals the truth about the embezzlement to Akari Hirai. In the present day, she lives alone in her ornate house with her cat Trinita (トリニータ, Torinīta). Takuma kills her in order to send a message to his father, and her strange death, appearing to have been run over by a flying car within her own house, piques the interest of Josuke, Koichi, and Okuyasu. Trinita's witnessing of the crime leads the group to seek out the cat and then have Rohan Kishibe use Heaven's Door to identify the killer as Takuma.

The crybaby boy (なきむしぼうや, Nakimushibōya)

This unnamed child was so traumatized by his abusive parents that he cried every night, and was bullied by the others in the orphanage. Takuma, who lived in the same orphanage as him, told him stories every night to help him stop crying, and they formed a friendship, resulting in the crybaby boy giving Takuma a pen as thanks. The crybaby boy is eventually adopted by relatives. The boy presumably went on to live a happy and normal life.

Chapters

The first chapter title of each pair is the title that is used in the volumization of Diamond Is Unbreakable. The second title is the title used in the original serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump. The last three chapters are included in volume 47.

Related media

In 2000, it was announced that Otsuichi would be writing a novel based on Part 4. The novel proved difficult to complete; in Kono Mystery ga Sugoi 2004, Otsuichi claimed to have written over 2000 pages, but thrown them all out. Intent on writing a novel that lived up to the manga, it took him until 2007 before The Book: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 4th Another Day was finally released on November 26. It is set after the events in the manga, and includes illustrations by Araki.

In 1997, Araki published the Weekly Shōnen Jump one-shot Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe ~Episode 16.. Confessional~ (岸辺露伴は動かない〜エピソード16‥懺悔室〜), starring Rohan after the events of Part 4. In 1999 he wrote the three-chapter story Dead Man's Questions (デッドマンズQ) in Allman magazine. Dead Man's Questions stars Yoshikage Kira, the main antagonist of Part 4. Both Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe and Dead Man's Questions were later compiled in Araki's one-shot collection, Under Jailbreak, Under Execution, in 1999.

The December 11th, 2007 issue of Jump Square featured a second entry into the Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe collection, entitled Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe ~Mutsukabezaka~ (岸辺露伴は動かない -六壁坂-), set seven years after the events of Part IV.

In 2009, Araki wrote the full-color story Rohan au Louvre (岸辺露伴 ルーヴルへ行く). The short story was displayed at the Musée du Louvre as part of their 2009 Le Louvre invite la bande dessinée exhibit. The story was later republished in Ultra Jump in 2010. In 2012, Rohan au Louvre was released in English by NBM Publishing under the translated title Rohan at the Louvre.

In 2011, Araki collaborated with the renowned Italian fashion brand Gucci for the short story Rohan Kishibe Goes to Gucci (岸辺露伴 グッチへ行く) in the women's fashion magazine Spur.

In 2012, Araki wrote a third Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe one-shot for Weekly Shōnen Jump. Entitled Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe ~Episode 5: Millionaire Village~ (岸辺露伴は動かない 〜エピソード5:富豪村〜) it was released in the October 6, 2012 issue of the magazine.

In October 2015, Warner Bros. announced that Part 4 would receive a television anime adaptation that serves as a continuation of David Production's ongoing television anime of the entire series. The series began airing in April 2016.

In 2016, it was announced that Toho and Warner Bros. are partnering to produce a live-action film based on the fourth arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Takashi Miike is directing the film that will star Kento Yamazaki as Josuke and which will release sometime in summer 2017. Both studios are planning for worldwide distribution and, with a title of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 ダイヤモンドは砕けない 第一章, JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Daiyamondo wa Kudakenai Dai-Ichi-Shō), are hoping to create sequels.
