History
Destiny 105 launched on the 14th February 2014, taking the place of the previously licensed station OX105 which had been found in breach by Ofcom for failing to provide the licensed service. The 105.1 FM Oxford licence is held by OX4 FM Community Interest Company and following the collapse of OX105, the entire board of directors resigned, handing control to a new management team of experienced broadcasters who then faced the challenge of acquiring and building new studios at short notice.
Following the change of management the licence was re-branded and the station re-launched as Destiny 105 from new studios in East Oxford, with equipment and facilities provided by Broadcast Ltd.
Format
During the day, Destiny Radio plays a mainstream cross genre selection of music dating from around the 1970s to date, interspersed with news, information and other items relevant to the local community. During evenings, specialist shows cover a wide range of music and information of all types.
Technology
Destiny Radio is notable in that the studios run almost entirely using Open Source software, with Linux used extensively throughout the station.
Funding
In line with Ofcom rules, UK community radio stations are only allowed to raise a maximum of 50% of their income (above certain thresholds) from advertising sales. The majority of funding for the station is therefore currently provided by donations from presenters and the public.
