History

The company was founded in January 2014 by Walid Abdul-Wahab in Santa Monica, California. The project was initially developed as an educational project at USC by Abdul-Wahab while he was a student there, after a visit to Saudi Arabia. It also received support from the USC Marshall School of Business start-up accelerator in July 2014. The initial stores that sold the milk were located in Texas, California, and Ohio. It is also sold online. The company was the first to offer retail camel milk for sale in the United States. The slogan for the company is "Make everyday a hump day". According to Time Magazine, the product was sold across forty Whole Foods locations in California.

Camel milk

Desert Farms camel milk is sold in both pasteurized and unpasteurized forms. It is also sold in a kefir yogurt-drink form. The unpasteurized form is sold in frozen form and needs defrosting before consumption. The camel milk sold by Desert Farms is produced in the midwest, where the camels are largely raised by Amish farmers on GMO-free pastures. The product has purported anti-inflammatory properties from its vitamin make-up. Camel milk is also more easily digested by lactose intolerant individuals.
