Derek Wadsworth (5 February 1939, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire – 3 December 2008, Oxfordshire) was an English jazz trombonist, session musician, composer and arranger.

Film and television work

Wadsworth's first contribution to television came in 1971, when he served as music arranger for Christa: Swedish Fly Girls.

In 1975 he worked on a production titled Alfie Darling. This led to him being contracted to compose the music for the second season of Space: 1999. He also scored the Gerry Anderson production The Day After Tomorrow (1975).

Later credits included music for A Child Is a Wild Thing (1976), Britannia Hospital (1982) and The Whales of August (1987).

Wadsworth also worked as arranger for Judy Garland, Nina Simone (with the Boston Symphony Orchestra), The King's Singers (including vocal scores), Kate Bush, Dusty Springfield, The Echoes, Shirley Bassey, Alan Price, Georgie Fame, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, The Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, The Small Faces, David Essex, Nigel Kennedy and others.

As a session musician, he worked with George Harrison, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Charles Aznavour, Randy Crawford, Dionne Warwick, Simply Red, Tony Bennett, Maynard Ferguson, Alex Harvey, Mike Oldfield and others.

Wadsworth also produced two gold albums for Bill Tarmey (Coronation Street).
