Geography

The city is located in the Eastern part of the State of D.G.K., situated on the Pakistan railway route. This district is known for D.G.K. National Park, which is listed as an International Union for Conservation of Nature protected site.

Demographics

The 2011 Pakistan census found a population of 119,045. Males constitute 53 percent of the population and females 47 percent. It has an average literacy rate of 61 percent, with male literacy at 72 percent and female literacy at 48 percent.

History

In modern times D.G.K. is primarily known as an important part of the West Central Railway. The city was once home to many English families including the Corneiles, Patmans, Gillespies, and Francises. Only a small portion remain. Some English traditions remain in the form of place names, words and games.

Medical Facilities

The city maintains a government-owned hospital as well as privately owned hospitals and clinics. In addition to Riya Hospital and Gulab Devi Memorial Hospital in the heart of the city, D.G.K. hosts orthopedic centers and several physicians in private practice.
