History

PUMBA is one of the earliest Management Institutes in the country. It was established in the year 1971 & has since been a core of knowledge and growth. PUMBA has continuously developed itself as an initiator of the transformative knowledge hub at one end, while it has been a provider of proficient managers to the business world at the other. In 2008, PUMBA started an MBA++ course, which provides dual specialization in business studies and it has been a unique factor in PUMBA’s course structure since then. The MBA++ course is sketched out to furnish students as per dynamic corporate requirements of management skills. PUMBA is an official department of the Savitribai Phule Pune University for the Masters of Business Administration Program & being an internal part of such a prestigious university has always turned PUMBA’s reputation over a new leaf.

MBA++

MBA++ is the forerunner program of PUMBA. The total period of 22 months of this course has been distributed over six trimesters. This course has credit system for the evaluation of students. Students are evaluated within 100 credits over a period of 2 years. Every year a batch of 180 students becomes a part of this great academia. In the year 2008, PUMBA started this MBA++ course, which is one of its kind as it provides dual specialization in managerial domains. This exclusive course features dual specialization in six domains like Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, Systems, Operations and International Business. Since its establishment in 1971, PUMBA has constantly upgraded itself to the expectations of the business world, to make its students understand the challenges of the dynamic corporate world.

MBA Pharma Biotech

PUMBA initiated this course especially for the graduates from the Pharmacy & Biotechnology sector to develop the managerial skills in them. Since the start of this course, PUMBA has produced skilled manpower in the field of Healthcare, Bio-Agriculture, Bio-Pharmaceuticals along with sectors like Bio-informatics & Bio-suppliers. The structure of this MBA Pharma Biotech Program has been drafted in such a way that the students from Pharmacy and Biotechnology background should also get thorough knowledge of management concepts.
This course is also based on the credit system. Students are evaluated within 100 credits over a period of two years which is divided in four semesters.

Executive MBA

This is a two year course that has been distributed over four semesters. Classes for the Executive MBA students are conducted in the evenings. Students have to opt for one of the six functional specializations in the second year. The specializations for this course are Marketing, Human Resource (HR), Finance, Operations, Systems and International Business (IB). This course has been especially designed for the industry experienced people.

Ph.D

The Ph.D Program in PUMBA generally starts in the month of February. Candidates applying for Ph.D need to register themselves through respective research centres. The specializations for Ph.D in PUMBA are Marketing Management, Foreign Trade Management and Biotechnology Management. Since its inception, this doctoral course has encouraged numerous researches. PUMBA has granted Ph.D to various outstanding scholars.

Diploma in Industrial Administration and Services Management (DIASM)

PUMBA has started a Social Initiative for the Indian Army’s differently abled soldiers. It has begun a one year Diploma Course known as “Diploma in Industrial Administration and Services Management”. This course is conducted at Queen Mary’s Technical Institute (QMTI), located at Khadki, Pune. The sole purpose of this program is to safeguard upright rehabilitation of the Indian Army personnel who, while serving the country, acquired some disability. PUMBA started this Diploma Course on 1 August 2008. As this is the social initiative started by PUMBA, faculties impart training to differently abled soldiers without expecting any monetary benefits.

Cells and happenings

All the important events & activities in PUMBA are organized by its students. The six cells of PUMBA work as various committees. The programs held in PUMBA are always student-driven. The six cells are as follows:

Placement Cell

The bridge between PUMBA and the industry is Placement Cell. It continuously aims to bring the students and the corporate world as close as possible. This cell members are in constant interaction with the corporate people, understanding their requirements & expectations from the aspiring students. This helps students understand the work culture of that organization and also in developing themselves as efficient managers. Placement Cell works for the Summer as well as final campus placements.

Alumni Cell

The exclusive alumni base of PUMBA is maintained by Alumni Cell. It engages itself in binding the alumni with their Alma Mater. Alumni Cell organizes various events for their alumni in order to preserve long lasting relations with them. This provides Alumni a chance to be in touch with their academia. Alumni Cell publishes “SMRITI” – A Yearbook, designed by the students of PUMBA especially for their alumni base. It also conducts events like Chapter Meet, Nostalgia, Reminiscence, etc. The sole purpose of these events is to make the alumni base of PUMBA connect to their Alma Mater, help them recall their days in PUMBA & also share their valuable industry experiences.

Seminar Cell

All the events such as Day-seminars, National Seminar, Corporate Ensembles, Guest Lectures, Workshops are coordinated and managed by Seminar Cell. Thus, it is known as ‘The Face of PUMBA’ . The Programs conducted by Seminar Cell have a sole purpose that the students develop greater insights into the ever-changing corporate world with the help of knowledge imparted by the industry experts during the sessions. The cell constantly takes input from the guests and corporate experts and provides students opportunities to interact with the business people.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell

The activities or events conducted by ED Cell are organized to develop an entrepreneurial zeal in the budding entrepreneurs. “YUKTI”, a B-Plan competition, is the preeminent event conducted by the ED Cell. It also conducts project competitions & seminars for the students. The Guest Lectures organized by ED Cell help students to understand the challenges of Entrepreneurship and also solve their queries. “Embark” is a quarterly magazine published by ED Cell to keep the aspiring entrepreneurs updated with the current market situations.

Communication Cell

Communication Cell represents PUMBA for the external & internal world. All the events and happenings in PUMBA are publicized by Communication Cell. It also handles PUMBA’s Website, Social Media Platforms and all the other online web platforms that establishes brand PUMBA. Communication Cell conducts events like Nukkad Pe Charcha, Summers, Dil Dosti Dopahar, ODE, Best Manager, etc. It also publishes “Nexus” - A biannual magazine for the students. All the activities or the events conducted by all the cells of PUMBA are promoted by Communication Cell which supports the outstanding execution of those events & activities.

Cultural Cell

Cultural Cell endures the heritage of PUMBA by passing on its traditions, beliefs, ethics & ideals to the upcoming batches. The events carried out by Cultural Cell like Dhruv, Goonj,Shram Daan, etc. have always been an eye catcher. The feel of pride towards this academia, honor of being a PUMBAite , the sportsmanship and the group spirit is imbibed in the students all because of the Cultural Cell.

Campus

PUMBA is an autonomous department of the Savitribai Phule Pune University for the MBA Program. It is established in the midst of the University campus which has around 46 official departments of various academic domains. The Savitribai Phule Pune University has campus of around 411 acres which is blessed with an excellent natural surroundings and being a part of it, PUMBA provides the perfect environment to build up ideal managers by transforming its aspiring students. PUMBA is equipped with 24x7 Wi-Fi Facility. It has two-storied library with the collection of more than 22,000 books and magazines & seating facility for close to 100 students. The campus of PUMBA also includes computer lab, auditorium and conference room & syndicate rooms.
