Denis Gorbunenko (born December 9, 1973, Donetsk) is a famous Ukrainian financier, banker, politician.

Biography and Education

Denis Gorbunenko was born in Donetsk in a family of Vladimir Gorbunenko, a State Bank member. In 1996 Gorbunenko graduated from the Donetsk State Academy of Management. In 1998 he held his MBA from the Oxford Brookes University, upheld a thesis "Direct foreign investment as a mode to enter Ukraine".

Career

In 1991 Denis Gorbunenko starts his career as Courier at Alice (IMPO LLC), a company specializes on construction materials. In 1992 he became a deputy CEO at IMPO LLC. Later, on February 1992, Gorbunenko moved to the Donbas branch of Inco JSC to the position of a credit department’s leading specialist. In 1995 he was appointed as a Deputy Director of Donetsk branch of the bank. In early 1998, Denis moved to Kyiv, where he held a position of Head of liabilities products at Kyiv-Private Bank. Later he took an offer to become the Head of international settlements and operations division at the Kiev International Bank, founded in 1996 by the Dutch Rabobank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

In this position in October 1999 Gorbunenko participated in the asquition of Incombank Ukraine (later – Kreditprombank JSC) by the shareholders of Energo concern. After closing the deal Denis Gorbunenko moved to the bank as a Vice Chairman of the Board. In 2003 he held the position of Deputy Head of Supervisory Board and financing of development director of OJSC DonetskSteel. In the same year Denis Gorbunenko became the First Deputy Chairman of the Bank. In 2004 Denis Gorbunenko was appointed as a Chairman at JSC RODOVID BANK. In April 2006 his share in JSC RODOVID BANK stake reached about 9%. The major shareholders’ stakes was consolidated in RB Capital Group, which owned total 76.6% of bank shares. In 2008 Gorbunenko buys 63.33% of Sparta, an asset management company, and invests about US$3 million. In 2008 one of the main RODOVID BANK shareholders announced a sale of bank’s controlling stake interest to Istil Group, owned by Muhammad Zahoor. The shareholder’s decision wasn’t consented with Gorbunenko. In this circumstances on January 13, 2009 Denis Gorbunenko resigned as Chairman of RODOVID BANK and started to develop his own financial projects. In August 2009 Gorbunenko was appointed as a Counsel to RODOVID BANK new Chairman of the Board.

Awards

Denis Gorbunenko was named "Financier of the Year" in "Man of the Year 2007" Awards (Ukraine). In 2007 Gorbunenko was ranked 94th ($232 million) among "130 Richest People of Ukraine" by Focus magazine rating. In 2008 he was ranked 78th ($180 million) in the same Focus magazine rating. In 2008 Denis Gorbunenko won 5th place in a "Entrepreneur of the Year 2008" contest in Ukraine organized by Ernst & Young. In 2007, Dennis Gorbunenko was one of the first financial experts in Ukraine, who forecasted a financial crisis.

Social Activity

Since 2005, Denis Gorbunenko was one of the most active sponsors Ukrainian Olympic and Paralympic teams.
