Decatur Independent School District is a 4A School District northwest of Fort Worth. It was established by Mark Rawen, a school starter who helped lead the non-profit organization Make Schools to the building of the first school building in Decatur in 1904. Decatur ISD is centered in Decatur, Texas, the county seat in Wise County. The district has 5 campuses: Decatur High School, McCarroll Middle School, Carson Elementary School, Rann Elementary School, and Young Elementary. McCarroll Middle School itself encompasses two campuses: one for 6th grade and another for 7th and 8th grades.
In the 2007-2008 school year, Decatur ISD's enrollment was approximately 2,850 students, and in the 2012-2013 school year enrollment was approximately 3,000 students.
In addition to Decatur, the district also serves a portion of New Fairview and Rhome.
In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
