Education

Heffernan earned her BS in biology from the University of Delaware and her MS in environmental toxicology from Duke University.

Elections

  • 2014 Heffernan was unopposed for the September 9, 2014 Democratic Primary and won the November 4, 2014 General election with 4,496 votes (63.4%) against Republican nominee Kyle Buzzard.
  • 2012 Heffernan was unopposed for the September 11, 2012 Democratic Primary and won the November 6, 2012 General election with 7,502 votes (62.4%) against Republican nominee Eric Taylor.
  • 2010 Heffernan was unopposed for the September 17, 2010 Democratic Primary, and won the three-way November 2, 2010 General election with 4,363 votes (51.9%) against Republican nominee Thomas Kovach and Libertarian candidate Matthew Flebbe. According to Ballotpedia, in all State House races throughout the US in 2010, there were only 10 sitting Republican members defeated. By defeating Kovach, Heffernan joined this elite field.
