Dean McCarthy is an Australian television and radio personality. He is currently the Hollywood correspondent for Scoopla, a national entertainment news television and radio program in Australia.

Education
McCarthy was raised on a farm in central Australia, and attended Tenterfield High School. Following this, McCarthy received an undergraduate degree in business from the Queensland University of Technology.
Early work in entertainment
McCarthy’s first job in the entertainment industry was as a radio announcer for Australian radio station 2TEN FM during high school. He eventually received his own on-air show at the station. He was later hired as the movie reviewer for the Labrat, Camilla & Stav show on B105 FM, Brisbane. He was also the face of Dreamworld, an Australian amusement park, which used his face on all park merchandise and advertising.
Television work
McCarthy was the host of the television program Cinema in Australia. Before moving to the US, he worked in both Brisbane and Sydney. He began working as a correspondent for the Southern Cross Austereo media group television show The Dirt TV. McCarthy then became the Hollywood correspondent for the Australian television show Scoopla in 2013. In this role he has covered awards shows including the Oscars, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, MTV Video Awards, Emmys, Grammys, in addition to their red carpets, and he has interviewed actors, musicians, and other Los Angeles entertainment professionals. He has also provided Hollywood coverage for The Today Show television program Australia, and is the entertainment reporter for the Beverly Hills Lifestyle Magazine. In 2014 McCarthy was the social media on camera reporter of the Emmy nominated national broadcast for the San Francisco Pride celebrations.
Reality television
McCarthy served as a fake housemate for the reality television show Big Brother Australia. As a Hollywood reporter, he appeared twice on the US television show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
