Born in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, Kaufert was a business owner and served on the Neenah, Wisconsin Common Council. Kaufert served in the Wisconsin State Assembly since 1991. In 2014 Kaufert was elected Mayor of Neenah, Wisconsin.
