Pacific National commits initial $35 million to Parkes Logistics Terminal
Dean Dalla Valle was born in Wollongong, south of Sydney, and is a senior executive and career mining professional currently CEO of Pacific National (appointed July 2017), one of Australia's largest rail freight businesses. He was previously employed by BHP spanning a 40 year career. In 2013 he was appointed president of coal after six years based in Adelaide where he managed the Olympic Dam copper, gold and uranium mine. Dalla Valle began his mining career in underground coal mining in the Illawarra region of New South Wales as a 17 year old electrician's apprentice. After twenty years in coal he moved to the Pilbara region of Western Australia where he was Vice President - Port for West Australian Iron Ore (WAIO). Other positions Dalla Valle has held within BHP include president of the Cannington silver mine in Queensland, president of uranium and president of coal. His last role at BHP was as Chief Commercial Officer with responsibilities for marketing, health safety environment, including the company's management of the Samarco event. A shaft at BHP's Jansen project was named after him in 2017 in recognition of his service to the company.

Dean Dalla Valle was appointed to the board of the South Australian Museum in 2011 and resigned in December 2012.
