Education
DeRionne Pollard earned a B.A. and M.A. in English from Iowa State University in 1993 and 1995. She earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies in higher education from Loyola University Chicago.
Controversy
Pollard has caused controversy at the institution she works at by some of her spending practices. After several students and faculty at the institution requested an investigation, a local news organization uncovered some of the compensation practices that the college she is president of has been appropriating on her behalf. These include 70,000 $USD being spent on conferences to places like Napa Valley, California and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The board of the university has currently no initiative to censure the president for her spending.
