David Meltzer (born January 11, 1968) is an American business executive, author, and humanitarian best known for his work in the field of sports marketing. He is also a featured speaker at conferences, corporate meetings, seminars, and other events along with being featured, interviewed or quoted in media including The New York Times, Sporting News, the International Business Times, Fox Business, and Bloomberg News.

In 2014, he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and honored as a Knight of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta, the world’s oldest humanitarian organization. Meltzer was named a "Top 10 Keynote Speaker" by Forbes magazine in January 2016. In February 2016, Meltzer was awarded the Sports Humanitarian of the Year award at the Variety Unite4:Humanity event in Beverly Hills, California.

Biography

Meltzer was born in Akron, Ohio on January 11, 1968. Currently, he is the chief executive officer (CEO) at Sports 1 Marketing with his business partner Warren Moon, and a national best-selling author. Prior to this, as CEO of Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, Meltzer, along with Leigh and Warren Moon, negotiated over two billion dollars in sports and entertainment contracts. In addition to athlete representation, LSSE served as creative and technical consultants on movie and television projects such as Jerry Maguire, Any Given Sunday, For the Love of the Game, and HBO's Arli$$.

Meltzer attended Occidental College and received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School.

Career

Meltzer has spent the last 25 years as an entrepreneur and executive in the legal, technology, sports and entertainment fields.

Technology

Early in his career, Meltzer was an executive for several technology companies, including Westlaw, Thomson Reuters, Everypath, Accenture, and the PC-E Phone. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the PC-E Phone, and responsible for the launch of the world’s first smartphone, manufactured by Samsung.

Meltzer has served as a consultant on stadium projects and other business of sports projects to help improve the fan experience with technology.

Entrepreneur and consultant

Meltzer was the original owner and developer of Poplar Grove Golf Course in Virginia, which is the first, and only, designed golf course by Sam Snead. During his ownership, Golf Digest ranked Poplar Grove course one of the Top Ten Best Public Facility’s in the United States.

He currently sits on the advisory board for OCTANe, a networking organization for information technology and biomedical industries, based in Orange County.

His mission is implemented into each of the firm’s business services, which include, endorsement deals, sponsorship and gifting, business consulting, corporate equity ownership, transitional services, brand endorsements and licensing, athlete and celebrity alignment, among others. He launched his career in sports at the sports agency Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, serving positions as CEO, where along with Leigh and Warren, he negotiated over $2 billion in sports and entertainment contracts.

Meltzer resides in Ladera Ranch, CA with his wife and four children.
