David McCagg is an American former competition swimmer, world champion, and world record-holder. He was in 100 metres freestyle at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships.

Early LIfe

McCagg was born in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He was a student at Auburn University, where he swam for the Auburn Tigers swimming and diving team.
Medals
He won three gold medals at the 1978 world championship in the individual competition on 100m freestyle, 4 × 100m freestyle, 4 × 100m layers. Four years later won a gold medal at the 1982 world championship and another three gold medals at the 1979 Pan American Games in the competitions 100m freestyle, 4 × 100m freestyle, and 4 × 100m positions.

The pinnacle of McCagg's success came at an unfortunate time of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, Russia which was boycotted by then United States President Jimmy Carter. "My parents have been divorced, but nothing hurt me more than the boycott," said McCagg to Sports Illustrated in 1983, who had finished eighth in the 100-meter freestyle at the 1976 Olympic Trials and was world champion in that event in 1978.

As of August 2019 David McCagg is the founder of GMX 7 Aquatic Resistance Training which provides innovative cardio and resistance training.
