David Iakobashvili

Biography

At present David Iakobachvili is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of OrionService Ltd, joint proprietor of Petrocas Energy Holding Ltd, and a member of the Board of Directors of Sistema JSFC. He is a member of the steering bodies of influential Russian and international organizations. David Iakobachvili is the Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE), Head of RUIE Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility and Demographic Policy, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Ethics, Chairman of B20 Task Force on Job Creation, Employment and Investment in Human Capita.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (ChCI RF), President of the Russian-American Business Council, Chairman of the Directors Board of RusBrand non-commercial partnership, a member of the General Council of "Delovaya Rossia" LLC, and a member of the World Economic Forum in Davos. He later became the member of the President's Global Council at New York University. David Iakobachvili is a member of the Social Council under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, a member of the Intellectual Property Protection Steering Group. David Iakobachvili is an active member of the Musical Box Society of Great Britain.

David Iakobachvili is the founder and an active member of guardianship boards of a number of educational, cultural and benevolent societies and organizations: Foundation of Mstislav Rostropovich Personalized Scholarships, “Maria” benevolent society, orphan asylum “Family Education Boarding House”, The Foundation, supporting children in difficult circumstances, State Hermitage, All-Russian Decorative Art Museum, Higher School of Economics, Business School of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and Russian Military Historical Society.

Collecting

He is a well-known collector of mechanical musical instruments, clocks and caskets, Russian bronze, art silver, items of Russian and West-European Applied and Decorative Arts. His collection is the result of a long-term search, authentication and restoration of artworks of notable painters and sculptors. It is continuously replenished with unique items from private collections from Russia and foreign countries. At present the collection numbers more than ten thousand pieces of art, many of which are objects of great rarity, existing in a single copy. In future, they will be exhibited in a public museum, constructed by David Mikhailovich in the centre of Moscow.

Awards

David Iakobachvili is awarded a medal “In Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow”, testimonial letter of the Russian Federation Government for active participation in the implementation of objectives of domestic economy modernization as well as a Pro Merito Medal of the Council of Europe. He was given the status of “The Men of the Year 2001” (Russian Biography Institute), “Person of the Year 2002” (Rosbuisinessconsulting) and “Entrepreneur of the Year 2003” (Ernst & Young). In 2008 he was given a commemorative award for contribution in the corporate management development and was called the best Chairman of Board of Directors (Association of Independent Directors). In 2012 he was given an award from “Kommersant” publishing house in two categories at once: “Success” and “Choice of the Audience”. In 2013 he won appreciation from the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation for active participation in preparing and holding a meeting of Heads of Governments of B20.
