In his native Ireland, he is well known as the presenter of Crimeline on Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland's national broadcaster. Earlier in his career, he worked as a producer and presenter with Irish radio stations Radio Nova and Century Radio

He was CEO of the Irish-based City Channel and was a founder of Star Broadcasting, the company that owns Sunshine 106.8.

Complaints where lodged with the BAI: The broadcasting authority of Ireland over alleged 'Racist' comments allowed to go unchallenged on the show he hosted 'The David Harvey show', a topical call in show which broadcast on Classic hits 4fm. The BAI concluded that “the failure to challenge what (it) considered to be racist and prejudicial remarks, the treatment of certain callers by the presenter as well as the handling of the discussion by the programme makers across the duration of the programme was such that 4FM failed to meet its statutory requirements”that “listeners would have reasonably assumed that racist and prejudicial remarks of some callers to the programme were reasonable and acceptable positions to hold in contemporary Irish society”. [2] [3] David Harvey 'strongly' rejected the complainant’s allegations. However, classic hits 4fm ceased to continue to broadcast 'The David Harvey show' citing “David Harvey is off air at the moment and we are currently working on some programme changes and hope to announce some over the coming months. Of course, the door is always open for David to return but due to his personal projects and time commitments, he could not continue doing the show (at the moment).” [4]
