David F. Alfonso is a self-made American entrepreneur, investor, producer and businessman. His current holdings are managed by Empire, where he is the executive chairman.

Early life and education

Alfonso was born December 8, 1966, in West Hartford, Connecticut. Alfonso’s father Francisco and mother Ana Maria were Cuban immigrants who came to the United States in 1961.

Alfonso's education includes Florida International University and the University of Miami, where he earned a bachelor's degree and an M.B.A., respectively. In 2011, Alfonso was awarded FIU's College of Business Administration (Landon Undergraduate School of Business) Medallion – Outstanding Alumnus.

Empire

For the past twenty years, Alfonso's career has been focused on mergers, acquisitions and operations, with a focus on investing in corporate orphans that can benefit from an entrepreneurial and operational approach. Through that time he has successfully completed more than 60 transactions from large public and private corporations, employing his specialized approach of addressing the complexities of acquiring corporate divestitures. As an investor and hands-on portfolio manager, Alfonso has been responsible for a diversified group of global companies, generating aggregate revenues over $5 billion annually, and employing over 15,000 people throughout the world. Alfonso's experience includes significant international exposure to dealings in Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Alfonso serves as executive chairman of Empire, where he oversees the firm's direction and strategic development, including that of its portfolio companies.

Philanthropy

Alfonso supports several charitable organizations and foundations. He has been an active supported of the World War II Foundation and is a board member. Alfonso was instrumental in the establishment of the "Major Dick Winters Monument" located at St. Marie du Mont, France.

Alfonso also served as a member of the FIU Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors and as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. In 2009, Florida International University recognized Alfonso as the first ever double Living Scholar Donation, which provided scholarships to four FIU student athletes (2 men and 2 women). Additionally in 2011, FIU’s Athletic Department and FIU alumnus Alfonso announced the exclusive naming rights for the Panther Football team’s home field called “Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium."
