David Antón Guijarro (born 23 June 1995) is a Spanish chess grandmaster. He attained his title at the age of 18, a year after he received his international master title. He has competed at two chess olympiads, won the Spanish championship 8 times and won first place at the 29th Magistral d'Escacs Ciutat de Barcelona in 2016.

Chess career

Winning bronze at the U16 European Championship in Prague in 2012 and silver in the U18 World Championship in Al-Ain in 2013, he won the Spanish Championship 8 times in various age groups. He became an international master in 2012 and progressed to his grandmaster title in 2013.

In the 2014 European Individual Chess Championship, he won the silver medal and tied for second place in the European Blitz Championships. He then qualified in the FIDE World Cup 2015 and won the 2014 Spanish Blitz Championship held in Sabiote, finishing ahead of Spain's first ranking grandmaster, Francisco Vallejo Pons.

On June 2016, he took part in the 29th Magistral Ciudad de León with Jaime Santos, Viswanathan Anand and Wei Yi. Competing in the European Rapid and Blitz tournament in the same year, he has won 6th and 10th place respectively.

David Antón won the 2016 Magistral d'Escacs Ciutat de Barcelona and finished 7th at the FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship 2016.

Being the sole leader for 9 rounds, beating Veselin Topalov and Boris Gelfand, the grandmaster won as the 2nd place champion after a three way tie break against Yu Yangyi and Hikaru Nakamura at the 2017 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Tournament.

Personal life

Born in Murcia, but grew up in Madrid, David Antón started playing chess at the age of 5 under the influence of his father. He took mathematics in the Complutense University of Madrid though he has now devoted himself to chess full time under the training of the director of Chess 24 in Spain, IM David Martinez.
