Early life and education

Danqun Fang was born in an intellectual family, in December 1941. His father was an agronomist and his mother was a middle school Chinese teacher. Under the nurture of intellectual and knowledge, Danqun Fang widely read Chinese and international classics in his childhood, which led to his lofty goal at a very young age: Following the example of Albert Einstein and Madame Curie who devoted themselves into science and technology. He passed into Xi’an Secondary Middle School ("西安市第二中学" in Chinese) in 1955. One year later, when he was 15 years old, he made a presentation to all the students and teachers in the school, titled “Marching towards Science”. During his high school period at Xi’an Third High School ("西安市第三中学" in Chinese), the younger Danqun Fang set up a student spare-time chemical plant to produce ink and soap for his schoolmates. In 1959, Danqun Fang was accepted by Northwestern University (China). He received excellent education in the Physics Department, with the guidance of several Chinese famous physicists including Jieheng Yue (expertise in Theoretical Mechanics), Renshou Jiang (expertise in Thermodynamics), Jiyue Zhang (expertise in Quantum Physics), etc. He got a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University (China) in 1963. During his university period, Danqun Fang built foundation of scientific mentality and learning methods, which contributed to his scientific career in the following years.

Career

After Graduation, Danqun Fang began his scientific work at Beijing Municipal Institute of Labor Protection. In the 1960s, he successfully developed a series of mufflers that could be used in industry environment. On the basis of the sound absorption theory of Micro perforated plate proposed by Prof. Daa-You Maa, Danqun Fang successfully developed a series of micro-perforated plate mufflers, which was widely used for sound absorption. From the 1970s, Danqun Fang led a team of acousticians, physiologists and doctors to research the influence of noise on hearing, cardiovascular, nervous system. After working out series of relationship between noise and brain, noise and deafness, noise and neurasthenia, he proposed noise standard for all places in industrial enterprise plants in China. His work led to the issue of the first China National Noise Standard for Industry in 1980. Five years later, with more comprehensive research by analyzing 11794 noise sources of 1034 factories and investigating noise exposure conditions of 62726 workers, Danqun Fang drew up “Industrial Noise Control Design Specification” for China, which was named as China National standards GBJ 87-1985.

In the late 1970s, Danqun Fang found that the sensitivity of EEG and ECG was quite low when doing research for physiological effects of noise. By using Biocybernetics theory, he proposed a series of new indicators of heart and brain function evaluation system together with experts of different professions, and proposed the linear relationship between the heart, brain function and noise level. It concerned research of noise physiological effect, especially with computer analysis of noise influence on heart and brain. Thereafter, the study group had enrolled a number of doctors and successfully developed differential diagnosis systems of heart EEG and ECG Multiphase Information, which increased the diagnostic sensitivity of coronary heart disease up to 85%.

In the 1980s, Danqun Fang participated in the preparatory work of an encyclopedia named as "Environmental Science". He firstly proposed the concept of Environmental Physics in China, and claimed it as emerging disciplines, including Environmental Acoustics, Environmental Electromagnetic, Thermal Environment, Environmental Optics and Environmental Aerodynamics. The view got the full support of the famous Chinese acoustician Prof. Daa-You Maa and he acted as editor of the Environmental Physics. Environmental Physics officially became one of the five disciplines of Environmental Science in China. After that, he suggested the establishment of Environmental Physics Professional Committee within Environmental Sciences. In 1982, Danqun Fang established Environmental Physics Pollution Control Research Center in China with the support of Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences and the cooperation of China Institute of Environmental Science, and presided over the daily works as a general vice director. Then, he published an article named "Environmental Physics pollution and control strategy" ("环境物理污染现状及其控制对策" in Chinese) on the "Physics"("物理" in Chinese) magazine organized by the Chinese Physical Society, an article named "physical pollution and countermeasures"("物理污染及对策" in Chinese) on "Technology Review"("科技导报" in Chinese) hosted by China Science and Technology Association and a series of articles to introduce environmental physics and promote environmental physical awareness. Since 1984, Danqun Fang served as Beijing Municipal Government expert advisor, and was appointed to be the professor in Beijing Institute of Technology. In 1988, Beijing Municipal People's Government awarded him as Beijing outstanding contributions of expert. In the same year, Chinese National Science and Technology Commission recognized him as Chinese National Distinguished Scientist.

Over the past decade, Danqun Fang was committed to the development and industrialization of biophysical information science, and invented the heart quantum spectrum of early diagnostic systems (CSD), which increased the sensitivity and specificity to 90% by making biological signals quantization and introducing the concept of heart math. The invention received the permission of FDA U.S. to enter the European and American market. It became a primary, accurate and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic instrument. At the same time, Danqun Fang achieved a series of improvement on the following areas: detection and positioning systems of heart disease, early diagnosis of heart disease and natural medicine, holographic analysis of bio-electrical information, etc.

Currently, he is the President of US Sound and Vibration Institute (US), President and Principal Scientist of the Micro Bio-Physic Laboratory (US), Chief adviser of State Environmental Protection Engineering Center for City Noise and Vibration (China), Chief advisor of China Association of Environmental Protection Industry – Noise and Vibration, Visiting Professor of Zhejiang University, Founder & Convener of Global Chinese scientists Environmental Forum, etc. In 2013, He published his important Chinese book named "Noise Control Engineering"("噪声控制工程学" in Chinese), which comprehensively summarized the noise and vibration scientific research and engineering practice achievements in the past half century by his team, as well as contemporary noise expert.

Noise Control Engineering

On the first half of the 1980s, Prof. Fang and his team organized almost one hundred noise control pilot study in 13 provinces and 40 enterprises with the support of relevant departments of the State Council in order to provide the basis for developing noise standard. This large-scale engineering practice not only provided a paradigm for the implementation of noise control design, but also verified the fact that the vast majority of industrial enterprises verification could achieve the noise limit through efforts. These examples were included in the book named as "114 cases of Noise Control" (in Chinese). The specifications, which were studied and drawn up by almost the whole noise industry and related industry, were approved and promulgated by the Ministry of National Planning Commission in December 1985, named as Chinese national standards GBJ 87-1985 "Industrial Enterprises Noise Control Design Specifications". The approval and promulgation of the specifications marked the birth of Noise Control Engineering in China. From then on, noise was not only of physics or acoustics, but also a subject area of engineering and industrial field. In the same period, Danqun Fang first proposed and organized the comprehensive management of urban environmental noise so that noise control was transformed from unit entries to a new stage of the entire plant and the regional environment management, and from spontaneous research by a few research institute to the new stage of government management. In 2013, Danqun Fang published a book with 1.5 million Chinese characters named "Noise Control Engineering", which highly summarized noise and vibration scientific research and engineering practice achievements in the past half century by Prof. Fang and his team, as well as contemporary noise expert. The book gives an authoritative summary of the birth and development of noise control engineering, established theory of noise control engineering disciplines, and completed the establishment of the noise control engineering discipline system.

Biophysical Informatics

Over the past decade, Danqun Fang was committed to the development and industrialization of biophysical information science, and invented the heart quantum spectrum of early diagnostic systems (CSD), which increased the sensitivity and specificity to 90% by making biological signals quantization and introducing the concept of heart math. The invention received the permission of FDA U.S. to enter the European and American market. At the same time, Prof. Fang achieved a series of important results of Biophysical Informatics, such as: detection and positioning systems of heart disease, conversion system of bio-electricity signal acquisition data, early diagnosis of heart disease and natural medicine, holographic analysis of bio-electrical information, structure of diagnosis and treatment of the life, and so on. The series of research and invention made him become a "doctor" for his invention of the "primary, rapid, simple and non-invasive" cardiac quantum spectra diagnostic instrument for the detection and diagnosis of the heart. The instrument was not only for critically ill patients, warning an impending critical coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction, but also for people from healthy condition into "sub-healthy condition" who had not been caused by organic disease, providing an "early diagnosis".
