SEC Commissioner Daniel Gallagher on Financial Regulation
Daniel M. Gallagher is President of Patomak Global Partners, LLC. He served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from November 7, 2011 to October 2, 2015. Gallagher was appointed to the SEC by President Barack Obama.

Gallagher graduated from Georgetown University (BA; English), and the law school at the Catholic University of America (JD, magna cum laude, law review).
Early career
Gallagher was General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Fiserv Securities, Inc.
In January 2006, he began at the SEC as counsel to SEC Commissioner Paul S. Atkins, and later as a counsel to SEC Chairman Christopher Cox. He joined the SEC's Division of Trading and Markets as a Deputy Director in 2008, and was Co-Acting Director of the Trading and Markets Division from April 2009 to January 2010. He then left the SEC to become a partner at WilmerHale.
Controversy
Gallagher became involved in a heated controversy at the end of 2014 when he co-authored, with former SEC commissioner Joseph Grundfest, an article asking whether Harvard University was in violation of federal securities laws. The article criticized Harvard's Shareholder Rights Project, which has in turn long criticized and sought to dismantle classified board structures in public corporations.
