Dan Turple

Kingston Frontenacs (2001-2004)

Turple was drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL in the sixth round of the 2001 OHL Priority Draft. He made his debut with the Frontenacs on September 20, 2002, as he made 39 saves in a 5-4 victory over the Guelph Storm. He appeared in 12 games during the 2002-03 season, going 2-8-0 with a 5.61 GAA.

He began the 2003-04 with Kingston, where he put together a 4-4-1 record with a 3.26 GAA and a .888 save percentage in nine games. The Frontenacs then dealt Turple, Clay McFadden and Brandon McBride to the Oshawa Generals for Chris Beckford-Tseu, Evan Kotsopolous and Kyle Raftis.

Oshawa Generals (2003-2005)

Turple finished the 2003-04 as the Oshawa Generals starting goaltender. On November 16th, Turple made 19 saves to earn his first victory with the Generals, as they defeated the Saginaw Spirit 2-1. Turple earned his first career OHL shutout on January 18th, making 26 saves in a 2-0 win over the Sarnia Sting. One week later, on January 25th, Turple shutout his former team, the Kingston Frontenacs, in a 4-0 victory. In 35 games with Oshawa, Turple had a 20-7-3 record with 2.60 GAA and a .923 save percentage, helping the Generals into the playoffs. In the post-season, Turple was 3-4 with a 2.58 GAA and a .922 save percentage, as well as recording a shutout, as the Generals lost to the Mississauga IceDogs in seven games in the first round.

In 2004-05, Turple got off to a slow start with the Generals, as he had a 4-4-0 record with a 3.71 GAA and a .872 save percentage after 10 games. The Generals traded Turple to the Kitchener Rangers for Carlo DiRienzo and Devereaux Heshmatpour.

Kitchener Rangers (2004-2006)

Turple took over the starting goaltending duties with the Kitchener Rangers, where in 40 games, he put together a record of 17-13-8 with a 2.36 GAA and a .924 save percentage. Turple won his first game with Kitchener on November 19th, making 23 saves in a 5-4 win over the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. He earned his first shutout with the Rangers on December 30th, stopping all 17 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. In the post-season, Turple appeared in only three games, as he suffered an injury in the third game of the Rangers first round series against the Erie Otters. Turple had a record of 0-2 with a 3.35 GAA and a .904 save percentage. In the first game of the series, Turple made 55 saves in a 2-1 double overtime loss to the Otters.

Turple returned as the Rangers number one goaltender in 2005-06. On October 16th, Turple made 53 saves in a 3-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. Overall, Turple had a record of 40-15-2 with a 2.25 GAA and a .924 save percentage in 57 games with Kitchener. Turple also earned seven shutouts, and he and his backup Mark Packwood were named the winners of the Dave Pinkney Trophy, which is awarded to the team that allowed the fewest goals in the OHL. In the playoffs, Turple had a 1-4 record with a 3.65 GAA and .896 save percentage as the Rangers were upset by the Owen Sound Attack in the opening round.

Atlanta Thrashers (2004-2009)

Turple was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the sixth round, 186th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Thrashers ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators in the 2006-07 season. On October 21st, Turple made his professional debut, as he made 32 saves in a 6-5 loss to the Augusta Lynx. One week later, on October 28th, Turple earned his first shutout, making 24 saves in a 4-0 win over the Columbia Inferno. In 34 games, Turple had a 18-13-3 record with a 3.77 GAA and a .879 save percentage. In the post-season, he appeared in only one game, making 40 saves in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Texas Wildcatters.

In 2007-08, Turple appeared in 30 games with the Gladiators, going 15-12-3 with a 3.16 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 30 games. In one playoff game, Turple made 23 saves in a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers. Turple also appeared in one game with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL, as he played 20 minutes against the Quad City Flames on November 24th, allowing a goal on seven shots.

Turple began the 2008-09 season with the Thrashers new AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He made his debut on November 1st, making 21 saves in a 3-1 win over the Iowa Chops. Turple won his first four decisions with the Wolves, however, he would struggle, finishing the season with a 5-8-0 record in 14 games, with a 2.92 GAA and .897 save percentage. Turple appeared in two games with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL on a loan, where he was 0-0-2 with a 3.69 GAA and a .909 save percentage. He then returned to the Thrashers ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators for the remainder of the 2008-09 season, where he had a 2-4-1 record with a 3.81 GAA and a .874 save percentage in eight games with the Gladiators. Following the season, Turple was granted free agency.

Dundas Real McCoys (2009-2011)

Turple joined the Dundas Real McCoys of the MLH in the 2009-10 season. In six games during the regular season, Turple was 6-0-0 with a 3.78 GAA and a .874 save percentage. In the post-season, Turple went 7-4 with a 3.77 GAA and a .888 save percentage, as the club won the championship.

Turple returned to the team in 2010-11, where in seven games, he went 3-2-1 with a 5.52 GAA and .870 save percentage in seven games.

On November 24, 2011, Turple announced his retirement from hockey.
