History

The origins of Dairy Barn traces back to the late 1930s. Edgar Cosman, a textile manufacturer, sent his son, Dieter to work in the family's parachute cord factory in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was later stranded in New York because of World War II, and he purchased a dairy farm on Long Island. Later, he came up with the concept of a drive-through convenience store. The first Dairy Barn store opened in 1961. They were down to 19 stores as of April 2012.
