DXLA-TV, channel 9, is a television station of Philippine television network GMA Network. Its studio and transmitter are located at Brgy. Cabatangan, Zamboanga City. This was owned by First United Broadcasting Corporation in the 1990s. Most of the network's stations are simulcast within regional limits, i.e., GMA Northern Mindanao has GMA Channel 35 Cagayan de Oro as its main station, with channels in Pagadian, Ozamiz, Bukidnon, Iligan and Dipolog as co-channels in addition to Butuan (2015-present). This channel is one of the few remaining channels that is transmitted from GMA Channel 7 in Manila (along with GMA TV-12 Batangas, GMA TV-7 Batanes and GMA TV-10 Surigao).

History

  • GMA Zamboanga was started as an affiliate of RT Broadcasting Specialist, Inc. in 1976, the first TV station in Zamboanga City since Martial Law of 1972. Thus, it was known as Pioneer RT3. It is also the first station in Zamboanga to air a local newscast with PNB newscast on early evenings. It also broadcast other local shows produced in Zamboanga. Its radio stations 91.5 mHz and 1044 kHz were owned by RT Broadcasting Specialist affiliated with GMA.
  • In the beginning of 1992-1994, as part of GMA's expansion of coverage through the Rainbow Satellite, Pioneer RT3 stopped producing a local newscast in order to air with relay transmission from Manila.
  • On January 1, 1995, GMA Zamboanga moved its frequency to Channel 9. At that time, the station was affiliated by First United Broadcasting Corporation until 1996.
  • Ownership of this frequency was given to GMA Network in 1996 alongside the launching of Super Radyo DXRC 1287 kHz Zamboanga (AM band) & Campus Radio 97.1 Zamboanga. However, in 2007, the airing of the said radio stations were ceased because of lack of advertiser financial problems. DXRC Super Radyo is now a relay station of DZBB from Manila.
  • As of 2013, GMA-9 Zamboanga is one of the few channels that have a relay telecast from GMA 7 in Manila, as most of GMA channels are being grouped into regional stations. Aside to Channel 9.
