Rashida Gonzalez Robinson (17 July 1980) better known as DJ Rashida, is an American DJ known for her fusion of hip-hop, funk, soul, dancehall, house, pop & rock. She has played in cities around the world, including London, New York, Tokyo, Dubai, Ibiza, Sydney, and Paris.

Early life

Robinson was born in Los Angeles, California. She bought her first pair of turntables at 18, and began to study the art of mixing.

Career

Robinson started spinning locally in Atlanta, and later moved back to her native Los Angeles and landed her first major residency spinning at the House of Blues on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip. There she opened for artists such as Kanye West, The Roots, and John Legend.

After playing a party for The Artist, Rashid met Prince. She began touring the world with the superstar, spinning at all of his private parties, special events, and performing live with him on The Tonight Show and at The BET Awards. *"After 6 Years Of Djing, DJ Rashida Lands Dream Job With Prince [EXCLUSIVE". In addition to her work with Prince, Rashida has been featured as a solo performer at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, played in St. Barths for Nikki Beach New Year's Eve party, and has spun for thousands at Super Sonic in Tokyo, Glastonbury in England, and Good Vibrations in Sydney. She has been called upon to spin for corporate and celebrity clients including People, Vogue Italia, Conde Nast, Fendi, Nike, Virgin, Jay-Z, Spike Lee, Michael Jordan, Lisa Marie Presley, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Kimora Lee Simons, and she has toured with Grammy nominated friends Kelis and Cee-Lo.

Robinson was the on-set DJ for the first three seasons of MTV's hit show Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew. In 2012, President Obama chose Dj Rashida to be one of three "DJs for Obama," as part of his reelection campaign.

DJ Rashida has been featured in various magazines, including Vogue Italia, People, US Weekly, Essence, 944, Vibe, Flaunt, Remix, and Dazed & Confused.
