D'Angelo Dante Russell (born February 23, 1996) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He plays both the point guard and shooting guard positions. He played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes before being selected with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Lakers.

High school career
Russell attended Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky, before transferring to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, after his freshman season. In 2014, he was named a McDonald's All-American. He was rated by Rivals.com as a five-star recruit. Russell committed to Ohio State on June 7, 2013, he chose the Buckeyes over Louisville, Michigan State and North Carolina.
College career

Russell played college basketball at Ohio State University. In his college debut, Russell had 16 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. On January 9, Russell grabbed a career high 14 rebounds in a win against Maryland. On January 21, Russell scored a career high 33 points in a 69-67 win over Northwestern. On February 8, in a 79-60 win against Rutgers University, Russell recorded a triple double (23 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists). This was the first triple double recorded by an Ohio State freshman. Russell had an impressive showing against 7 seed VCU in the NCAA tournament, scoring 28 points and leading his team to the victory, although his season ended shortly after as the Buckeyes fell to Arizona 73-58. He finished fifth in the voting for the John R. Wooden Award. On April 22, 2015, Russell decided to forgo his last three years of eligibility and declare for the 2015 NBA draft.
Professional career
On June 25, 2015, Russell was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft. On July 10, 2015, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Lakers and went on to average 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in five Summer League games. He made his debut for the Lakers in the team's season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 28, recording 4 points and 3 rebounds in a 112–111 loss. On December 11, he scored a season-high 24 points in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
