Cyrillization of Esperanto refers to the transcription or transliteration of text from Esperanto written in the Latin script into the Cyrillic script. During the Soviet era, esperantists frequently wrote Esperanto with the Cyrillic characters since typewriters in the Latin characters were uncommon. Nowadays, the utilisation of the Cyrillic alphabet in order to write Esperanto is no longer so necessary. It can be used, however, to transcribe the texts of the manuals of Esperanto for people where the Cyrillic alphabet is used.
