Allen scored a hat trick in his UEFA Tournament debut as a 16-year-old for Northern Ireland’s U-19 team.
When he was with Lisburn Distillery, he scored 19 league goals in one season and was the leading goalscorer in the league that season. In May 2009 he evoked a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave Lisburn. In the summer, he was linked to a move to two Championship sides, relegated West Bromwich Albion and newly promoted Scunthorpe United but joined Linfield on a two-year contract in June 2009.
In May 2011 he signed a 2-year contract with Coleraine. On 10 June 2013 it was reported that Curtis had signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle of the Scottish Premier League.
In December 2013, having been unable to break into the first-team squad, Allen and Inverness CT mutually agreed to the cancellation of the remainder of his contract. This will enable him to seek out opportunities elsewhere, and initially, Allen has elected to return home to Northern Ireland.
As of January 2014, Glentoran FC have announced the signing of Allen on a 3 1⁄2-year contract.
