Croatian football clubs have participated in UEFA competitions since 1958. Before 1992 Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia. Therefore, Croatian teams represented this country and did not always have a guaranteed spot in European competitions.

UEFA country coefficient and ranking

For the 2017–18 UEFA competitions, the associations will be allocated places according to their 2016 UEFA country coefficients, which will take into account their performance in European competitions from 2011–12 to 2015–16. In the 2016 rankings that will be used for the 2017–18 European competitions, Croatia's coefficient points total is 23.875. After earning a score of 4.500 during the 2015–16 European campaign, Croatia is ranked by UEFA as the 17th best association in Europe out of 54.
