Cris Gunther is an American singer, composer, producer, actor and dancer. His song "Never Give Up" was chosen by Madonna to be a daily feature in her digital arts initiative, Art for Freedom. It was the first song and music video to be selected out of thousands of submissions.

History

Gunther was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and started his performing career in nightclubs, talent competitions, and singing in a Pentecostal church choir at the age of nine.

Gunther's father, Terry Gunther, a professional Country/Pop/Gospel singer and songwriter was the opening act for over a dozen, American Country music stars in the 1980s & 1990s, including, Lone Star, Lorrie Morgan, Billy Crash Craddock, Wade Hayes, Donna Fargo, Gene Watson, and T. Graham Brown. Terry Gunther also performed at The Memorial Service For Miners in Beckley, West Virginia, in April 2010, where President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker. Other notable people from West Virginia are singer/songwriter Bill Withers ("Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine"), celebrity actress Jennifer Garner (Alias, Elektra), Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast Mary Lou Retton (1984), and author/educator Booker T. Washington (1865–1915).

Cris Gunther lived in New York City for fourteen years, where he started his professional career at Marymount Manhattan College (a liberal arts college on the upper east side of Manhattan) as a student of theatre and psychology. Past alumni have included Alexander Skarsgård, actor (Eric Northman, True Blood), Moira Kelly, actress (One Tree Hill, "The Lion King"), and Ivette Sosa, actress/singer (Eden's Crush, Chasing Papi). Gunther's acting credits have included a principal role in The History Channel's 'The Mexican-American War' hosted by Boxing Champion Oscar De La Hoya, an international educational video by publishing giant, McGraw Hill, and several independent films, off-Broadway plays, and music videos. He made his modeling debut in the pages of Italian Vogue in a story called, 'The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeois' shot by world-renowned, fashion photographer, Steven Meisel.

Gunther after rediscovered his passion for music, and spent the next few years writing and recording music demos, and training with vocal coach to the stars, Don Lawrence, known for his work with Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Bono (U2), and Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones). And Gunther was chosen to perform in a Songwriters Hall Of Fame Showcase in New York City (Lady Gaga was also chosen for the same showcase in 2006, before her rise to international stardom) that appeared in the pages of Billboard Magazine (the premier source of music industry news in the U.S.), in 2002. In 2007, Cris Gunther released his debut, independent album, Fall Into The Open via iTunes, with the participation of producer/writer, Fab Dupont (Shakira, Jennifer Lopez) on the track, "Fools Gold". Gunther also collaborated with Mic Murphy, the lead singer of the famous American band from the 80's and 90's, The System (who scored the American Top 5 Pop, R&B hit, "Don't Disturb This Groove") on the track, "Black Doll". Gunther also worked with Verve Records Artist Lucy Woodward (BMI Songwriter Award Winner for the International Top 5 Hit, "There's Gotta Be (More to Life)") on the tracks, "Gotta Give", "Sacred Sexuality", and the Kylie Minogue cover, "Turn It into Love". And, Tim K (Tiny Hearts, Russell Taylor, Les Nubians, Collette, Esthero) produced nine of the CD's ten tracks.

In 2008, Gunther started working and living in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In October 2010, Gunther performed seventeen shows for his debut tour sponsored by Cultura Inglesa, one of Brazil's most prominent English language schools. And, Gunther also performed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, at such famed venues as, Palacio das Artes, Granfinos and Roxy/Josefine. The end of 2012 saw Gunther act in a holiday T.V. commercial for the high-end, Brazilian supermarket chain, Verdemar, and shoot a modeling campaign for the global mining company, Magnesita. In January 2013, Gunther's Kickstarter campaign for Anchor And Wings:: {A Sonic/Visual Project} was 100% funded. The Anchor And Wings album project was produced by Gunther and Othoniel.

The song "Never Give Up" (written and produced by Othoniel and Cris Gunther), from the Anchor And Wings project, was added to the biggest standalone music site in the world with over 7 million users per month, the famous, award-winning, NME Magazine based in the United Kingdom, in addition, to being added to over twenty different music and political blogs around the world, including Tokyo, Istanbul, Brazil, Poland, Croatia and various Arabic sites.

In 2014, Gunther acted in his second, Brazilian T.V. commercial for the drugstore chain, Drogaria Araujo. Gunther also recorded a performance for the international music franchise, BalconyTV, that has seen such famous artists as Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, The Script, Jessie J and Kimbra all record episodes before launching internationally. And, Gunther reached #1 on Reverbnation's Pop Chart for Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and cracked the national Top 5.

Cris Gunther's original, unreleased composition, "They Need Love" was rated #1 for 3 weeks in June, 2015 on ISINA, the new mentorship program of Grammy Award Winners- Babyface (Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Eric Clapton)- and Walter Afanasieff (Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Celine Dion, Marc Anthony, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Christina Aguilera). And, on the week of September 28, 2015, Cris Gunther's second, original, unreleased song, "204" (produced by Luã Linhares and written by Gunther, Curt Francisco and Luã Linhares) was classified #1 in the world on Isina's weekly chart again.

Cris Gunther released the social protest single, "Terror Inc." (written by Cris Gunther and Curt Francisco and produced by Luã Linhares) via his new Business, Entertainment, Music, Film, Stage Productions, Fashion, Jewelry and Book company, Anchor And Wings, LLC. on August 9, 2015.

Musical style
