History

Credit Benchmark was established in 2012 by Mark Faulkner, founder of Data Explorers and the author of the Guide to Securities Lending Markets, and Donal Smith, formerly CEO of Data Explorers which sold to Markit in 2012.

Donal Smith took over as CEO from Elly Hardwick in January 2016. Elly Hardwick's previous roles included Morgan Stanley and Thomson Reuters.

Credit Benchmark completed a $7m Series A funding round in July 2014, led by Index Ventures and a $20m Series B funding round in July 2015, led by Balderton Capital.

Services and products

Credit Benchmark collects various risk metrics, including probability of default (PD) and loss given default (LGD) from contributing Internal Ratings-Based Approach (IRB) banks. The company pools this information to provide clients with consensus credit risk data and analytics for: sovereigns, corporates, banks and non-bank financial institutions.
