Cowan High School is located in Cowan, Indiana in Southern Delaware County in east central Indiana. The school is located six miles south of downtown Muncie, Indiana and is part of the greater MSA of the city. Current enrollment figures for Indiana rank Cowan High School 309th out of 345 total public schools. Cowan High school has a marching band but does not have a football team or a football field.

After the move to multi-class sports in 1997-1998, the Cowan girls volleyball team has played in the Class A State Finals twice (as of 2011). The Cowan girls volleyball team won the schools first class A State Championship title for the school in the year 2012.
Sports offered at Cowan include the following fall sports: Girls and Boys cross country, bowling, girls volleyball, and girls and boys basketball. The following spring sports are offered: Boys baseball, girls softball, boys golf, and boys and girls track and field.
Cowan High School contains, as of the 2011-2012 school year, approximately 300-400 students in grades 7 through 12. The following are classes offered for high school students for Science, Math, and English (grades 9 through 12):

Rodney Thomas - A 1996 graduate, led Division I (NCAA) in three-point field goal percentage for the 1998-1999 season while playing guard for the IUPUI Jaguars.
Justin O'Conner - A 2010 graduate, finished his high school baseball career with a state record-tying 51 career home runs and a state record 198 RBIs. O'Conner also was drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Stan Pinegar - Vice president of Duke Energy Indiana, is a 1982 graduate of Cowan High, and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University. Pinegar worked as a staffer for Representative Philip Sharp before becoming a noted member of the Indiana Bar Association. Pinegar graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 1990 and was declared a member of the Sagamore of the Wabash by future Indiana governor Mitch Daniels in 1993. Before Duke, Pinegar served as president of the Indiana Energy Association. He was student body president at Cowan, as well as a notable athlete, earning nine varsity letters. He currently lives in Zionsville, Indiana with his wife and three sons.
