The Counts of Liège were present only a short time, from the time of Reginar until the formation of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège in 980. The known counts are:

  • Reginar (870-898), also Count of Mons, Hainaut and Hesbaye
  • Sigard (898-920), also Count of Hainaut
  • Giselbert (through at least 922), son of Reginar, also Duke of Lorraine
  • Emmo (through 958), also Count of Hesbaye
  • Richar (through 973), also Count of Mons
  • Godizo (through 980-985), also Count of Betuwe, son of the previous.
  • In 985, Notger of Liège, then bishop, received secular control of the County of Huy from Emperor Otto II, and became the first prince-bishop of Liege.
