Critical reception

Jessica Phillips of Country Weekly characterized the song as "an unfortunately overextended string of rural impressions." Sam Gazdziak of Engine 145 referred to "Country Boy" as "polarizing" and "turgid", also speaking negatively about the three versions on Town Line.

"Country Boy" is the walkout song for UFC featherweight contender Chad Mendes. Lewis performed the song live at UFC 189 in Las Vegas.
