History

Cottonwood was originally named Ingham, and under the latter name was laid out in 1906. The present name comes from Cottonwood Creek.

Residents voted 7 to 4 in 2016 opposing dissolution of the town.

Geography

Cottonwood is located at 43°57′59″N 101°54′20″W (43.966333, -101.905478).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.92 square miles (2.38 km2), all of it land.
