Coraline Ada Ehmke is a software developer and Open Source advocate based in Chicago, Illinois. She began her career as a web developer in 1994 and has worked in a variety of industries, including engineering, consulting, education, advertising, healthcare, and software development infrastructure. She currently works as a senior application developer for GitHub on a team that develops community management and anti-harassment features for the popular software platform.

Contributions to the Open Source Software Community
Coraline created OS4W.org, a resource for connecting all women, including women of colour and transgender women, to open source projects. She is also the creator of the Contributor Covenant, a code of conduct used in over 14,000 open source projects.
Coraline created and maintains many Open Source projects including Ephemeral, Society, PoroPlus, Revenant, Rspec Statsd, Ambient Spec, Fukuzatsu, and Snuffle.
Contributions to the Ruby Community
Coraline has been programming professionally in Ruby since 2007. She is the author of 25 Ruby gems and has contributed to major projects including Rspec and Rails. She is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world, including RailsConf, Madison Ruby, That Conference, Big Ruby, Great Wide Open, Nickel City Ruby, Kansas City Developers Conference, Ruby Midwest, Lone Star Ruby, Windy City Rails, Keep Ruby Weird, Mountain West Ruby, Rocky Mountain Ruby, Write/Speak/Code, Bath Ruby, and RubyConf Australia. In 2017 she gave the keynote address at RubyFuza in Cape Town, South Africa.
She was a panelist on the popular Ruby Rogues podcast from 2014 to 2016 and is now a founding panelist on the Greater Than Code podcast.
Coraline was a 2016 recipient of the Ruby Hero award.
In addition to this, she is on the board of directors for Ruby Together and RailsBridge.

Coraline's "Culture Offset" project, launched in 2014 in response to a sexual harassment scandal involving GitHub, was featured in the Wall Street Journal and Wired Magazine.
Her work is frequently covered in the tech press including The Daily Beast, Fusion.net, The Mary Sue, and Source{d}. She has been the target of negative reporting critical of her work in making Open Source more diverse and welcoming on Breitbart News on multiple occasions, including an article targeting her anti-harassment work at GitHub.
