The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region is a public charity founded in 1973 serving the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. It is the fifth largest community foundation nationally according to grants paid at over $83 million in 2005, and the ninth largest in terms of gifts received by donors at over $77 million, according to the Council on Foundations.[1]

The Community Foundation's mission is to strengthen the Washington metropolitan region by encouraging and supporting effective giving and by providing leadership on critical issues in our community.
The Community Foundation operates in communities throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, with local offices in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. It is currently led by Angela Jones Hackley, Interim President.[2]
