Colombo Football Club, or simply Colombo FC is a professional football club based in Colombo. The club plays in the Premier Division, the top flight of Sri Lankan football. They are currently Sri Lanka Premier League Champions and won the FA Cup championship, sponsored by Cargills Ceylon, defeating Blue Star SC 1–0 in the final on July 4, 2015 at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Currently remaining on the top of 2016/17 Sri Lanka Premier League.

History

Colombo FC Colombo FC overcome odds to clinch maiden Champions League

Founded in April 2008, Colombo FC is a relatively new club, started by supporting the growth of football talent in the city for which it is named, in the local City Football League and the Colombo Football League. The club was able to enter the 3rd Division of the Sri Lanka Football Federation in the 2009-2010 season. They became Division 3 Runners Up in the 2010-2011 season after losing to Matara SC 2–0 in the finals held at Vernon Fernando Stadium, Kalutara.

Colombo FC won its First Championship Trophy on April 25, 2010, beating Java Lane SC 3–2 to win the Silver Cup in a Championship organized by the Colombo Football League. In Division 2 of the 2011/12 football season, Colombo FC lost in the Semi Finals to the eventual champions in a 5–4 penalty shoot-out after a 1–1 tie during regulation time. That year the 4 semi finalist teams - Solid FC, Matara SC, Super Sun and Colombo FC - were promoted to Division 1.

In 2014/15 Colombo FC climbed to the top of the League table, but a knock-out in the final quarter with Don Bosco saw them out of the race. They lost 3–2, finishing in second place with 45 points, while Solid FC with 48 points became champions of Dialog Champions League 2014/15 season.

The 2015-2016 season was a remarkable one for Colombo FC as they won the much-awaited Dialog Champions League Cup. With a closely contested Super 8 round, Colombo FC secured their debut championship on the last day. Renown FC emerged 2nd in the table. The club won with a margin of 1 goal, on goal difference, defeating Army 2-0 on the final day. Colombo FC went on to win 23 games, losing only one game to Renown in the Super 8 stage which ended their winning streak in all competitions. Bodrie Dimitri was crowned MVP of the season.

In the Holcim FA Cup 2010, Colombo FC became the first 3rd Division Team in history to enter the 5th Round of the FA Cup, organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka. They lost in the Pre-Quarter Final(Round 5) to Police SC 4–0. The team reached the Semi Finals in 2014, where they lost to Army SC 2–1.

Colombo FC emerged Champions of the Cargils FA Cup in 2014 defeating arch rivals Blue star, 1-0 at home by scoring a win, meaning the first win against Blue Star.

AFC Cup Qualifier 2017

Colombo FC, after winning the 2015/16 season, qualified to contest for the AFC Cup which is the qualifier for the subcontinent end, and drew ties with India's football giants Mohun Bagan AC.the Qualifier consist with two legs, the 1st leg was played at 31st January 2017, at Colombo Race Course.Mohun Bagan AC won the 1st leg 2-1. Colombo FC strengthened their squad with 8 Loan in players.

    H-2B Programme Our H-2B Program offers temporary employment and Cultural Exchange for participants in the United States of America. The H-2B visa is available to employers of foreign non-professionals, not working in the agricultural field. This visa is only available for work that is temporary in nature. For H-2B purposes, that means: - Recurring seasonal need; - Intermittent need; - Peak-load need; and - One time occurrence. The length of the programme usually is ten (10) months however by the request of the employer the programme may go up to three (3) years. The program operates under the US Department of States exchange visitor visa; which allows persons to work legally in the US. Jobs available are usually in the unskilled sector of work in the Jobs are available across a wide range sectors such as the Hotel and Restaurant Industry and can be in any of the fifty mainland states of America. We will ensure all participants receive and sign Job contracts which will include specific start and end dates, wages while in the USA, accommodation arrangements unless otherwise stipulated, transportation and uniform details, as well as any other specific requirements from employers. Participants MUST have a clean Criminal Record and be willing to work in unskilled jobs as approved by the US Department of State.

    The benefits of the programme are for participants to learn about the American culture; as well as to share your own culture and represent Jamaica. One other benefit is also that you get to internationalize your resume.
