Special spaces the collett school

The Collett School is a purpose-built special school, designed and built in 1964 and now supports children with complex learning difficulties.

Contents

Unique in Hertforshire, The Collett is the only 4-16 age school for children with moderate learning difficulties, speech and language disorders and Autism. Some children in the school have very rare diagnoses and many have health issues.

The school is outward looking with a clear vision and warm ethos. It is known as a very happy school with a curriculum designed to challenge, inspire and motivate children to take ownership of their learning and thrive in a culture that supports pupils to achieve a high degree of self-esteem through relative, functional skills orientated experiences.

The Collett School has dramatically improved its resources through innovative fundraising that includes the engagement of its pupils. A strong school council helps direct the vision of the school and as such, were instrumental in the creation of a treehouse classroom and treehouse library. Play equipment and resources for supporting pupils' social and educational development are high on the school's priority for their next fundraising initiatives.

The current (2016) Headteacher of the school is Mr Stephen Hoult-Allen.
