COELAN
Coelan Marine Coatings were invented in 1992 by German company COELAN. COELAN was founded in 1954 by Gerhard Hunkemoller and was a specialist for Polyurethane based liquid plastics and holds almost fifty patents and registered designs for their products. The company initially invented Coetrans-Balcony Coating which was used to renovate balconies and terraces. They then developed Coelastic-Roof Coating and Coreamik-Tile Coating before developing Coelan Marine Coatings.
Kemper Systems
COELAN was a family owned company but in 1998, another German based company by the name of IBG Cologne invested in COELAN the company in order to assist them with going global. Coelan Marine Coatings are now distributed worldwide by Kemper Systems, a worldwide leader, innovator and manufacturer of high quality waterproofing products.
Chemical properties and handling
Coelan Marine Coatings are made of many compounds including Propylbenzene, Mesitylene, and Isocyanatomethyl. They are flammable and should only be applied in well ventilated areas. Any skin contact with the product should be countered by washing the area with soap and water. If applying in an area with high humidity, it is suggested that a retardation agent is added. Coelan Marine Coatings are based on a propriety, single-part, liquid prolyurethane formula and are approved in the United States by the EPA to be compliant in all fifty states.
Uses
Coelan Marine Coatings come in transparent gloss and silk finish with the primer coming in pigmented colors. They can be used on wood, fiberglass, and metal deck surfaces. They are also used to restore inflatable dinghies, boating fenders, and rub rails. Once applied, it is both flexible and resilient and able to bridge hair line cracks and stop leaks. Colean Marine Coatings are water vapor permeable so they allow moisture to dissipate and are resistant to high wear and abrasion. They are used to refurbish wood such as teak, oak, mahogany and red ironwood but can also be used for softwoods such as pine, fir, larch, and spruce. They can also be used on many other surfaces including steel, fiberglass, and rubber. Colean Marine Coatings are designed to be “antislip” and are also often used on home furnishings as well as boats. Coelan Marine Coatings are rated among the best in the industry as they retain a good level of gloss and translucency.
