Club Athletico Paulistano basketball section is part of the Brazilian multi-sports institution Paulistano, based in São Paulo, Brazil. The team competes in the Brazilian league, Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Marcelinho Huertas started his career at Paulistano. For sponsorship reasons, the club is also currently known as Paulistano/Unimed, or Paulistano Unimed, for the name sponsor Unimed.

History

Paulistano was the first team of the point guard Marcelinho Huertas, current player and captain of the Brazil national basketball team. In the NBB 2009-2010 season, the managers hired the center Rafael "Baby" Araujo, who had just been national champion with Flamengo, a season before. But the team did not made a good campaign and finished the season in eleventh place. The following season was even worse than the previous and Paulistano finished the season in twelfth place. But in the NBB 2011-2012 season, under the command of coach Gustavo de Conti and led in the court by the young players Elinho Neto and Betinho Duarte, Paulistano did its best campaign in the NBB's history, finishing in seventh place in the regular season. In the playoffs, the experienced team of Franca defeated the young team from São Paulo. For the following season, Paulistano lost Betinho Duarte for Minas and Guillermo Araújo for its greatest rival Pinheiros.

For the Brazilian League 2009-10 season, the managers of Paulistano signed center Rafael "Baby" Araujo, who had just won the Brazilian national league championship with Flamengo, in the previous season. The team finished the season in eleventh place in the Brazilian League. In the next season after that, Paulistano finished the season in twelfth place in the Brazilian League.

In the Brazilian League 2011–12 season, under head coach Gustavo de Conti, and led on the court by the young player Betinho Duarte, Paulistano had its highest finish in the top Brazilian League, finishing in seventh place in the regular season. In the Brazilian League playoffs, they lost to Franca.
